Carrier Snails

Jokes about the prompt name, vol.1

In the world of fairies, distances that for us are small can be a travel of many hours. For that reason —and many others —, the fairy folk developed a strong bond with wild creatures, and can use them as a ride when their little feet can't bear the long road. These mounts vary from squirrels, big insects, birds and even snails.
Carrier snails are snail species found all over the continent of Eirlang. They used as a mean of transportation by the fairy folk, specially by fairies who live too far from their workplace, like miners, or to transport delicate cargo.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Carrier snails are similar to regular snails. However, instead of a spiraled shell, they have an elongated one, with little height variation.

Biological Traits

The continent of Eirlang has many different subspecies of the Carrier Snail. They may appear wider, longer and with a different color pattern, but have the same average intelligence and low resistance to domestication.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Carrier Snails eat leaves, fruit and small organisms from the soil. Their favorite food is Tullian Berry.

Additional Information

Domestication

Most of times, the snail is tamed from the wild. To do that, fairies give them a very sweet syrup, made with Tullian Berries and mixed with a strong scent, that may vary with each fairy settlement. After doing that several times, the snail associates the smell with the flavor of the tullian syrup, and follow the scent until reaching the designated stable.   Some villages may have snail farms, but they must be handled with caution: too many snails can cause an ecological unbalance in the region.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

The convenient shape of the Carrier Snails shells makes them very useful to carry objects and also people, and their excellent sense of smell makes them able to travel very long distances in search of their designated scent.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

The forests of Eirlang, being found in the whole continent in varied subspecies.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

They have very sensitive organs in their head, that make them able to smell specific scents miles away.
