White Face
Liella lost sight of the emberish fairy, and it didn't take much for she to get lost in the almost absolute darkness. Even when her eyes were getting used to the lack of light, there was not much to do: she didn't knew the ways of the forest under the Shell. Suddenly, a long and eery whistle filled the air. Another whistle, from another place, answered, and then a third. A rustle sound came from all around Liella, coming closer and closer as the whistles continued. The fairy tried to run, following a direction from where no sound came. In the distance, she could see a large and dark figure — darker than the woods or anything else in the forest — with what looked to be antlers. Liella stopped for a while, but the whistles and rustles were very close now, and she approached the figure, that suddenly turned around. It was still pure black, except for the face: an oval shape of an almost glowing white, with a long nose — or beak — and two big and empty black holes for eyes. Liella was frightened, but still held a bit of hope about that creature. And then it whistled too.— Ashes
Basic Information
Anatomy
The White Face has the appearance of a mound of black leaves or feathers, with two antlers on the top of its head. Reports speak of the sound of steps, what implies the creature may have feet; however, their number and shape is unknown.
Since most of this creature's body is a black and undefined mass, its face is most outstanding feature, thus naming it. The face is a white "mask", very similar to bone, with two black holes and a "beak". Two variations were already reported: the rounder, oval shaped mask, and another one, almost triangular.
All of the reports concerning the last one talk about attacks; however, the oval faced creatures seem to be less aggressive and even helpful in some cases.
Ecology and Habitats
The White Faces inhabit the forests of Eirlang, specifically the dark region under the Shell.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Little is known about their eating habits, but since they attack foreigners, it's possible for them to be carnivore. It attacks by engulfing the prey into the black and chaotic mass of its body. What happens there is unknown, but certainly unpleasant.
Additional Information
Social Structure
Most times the White Faces are seen alone, but it's not rare to see them in packs of three to six elements. It's not known if there is some hierarchy inside these groups, but most reports don't give any evidence about that.
Average Intelligence
It's not fully known how intelligent a white face is. However, from the few reports of people who entered the Forest Under the Shell, they are smart enough to hunt in packs and prepare ambushes.
More than that, they have a communication system composed by different whistles; the few reliable sources talk about 8 or 9 different sounds, but there may be more.
