This article exists as an overview on timekeeping in the world of Erdezwei, and how years and eras of history are organized.
Years
On Erdezwei, years are counted in cohorts of 500 called Eras, counting up from the year of Elohim's birth. For example, the fifth year of the third era would be written as "E3 005". The present day, as of the Cross-Ekonic War, is E5 016
The Ages
A more informal organization of years, usually used in a historical context, are the Ages. They're primarily defined by the level of technology present in that time.
Prehistory
Anything that happened before the rise of sapience and the founding of civilizations is considered part of prehistory.
The Age of the Ancients
Covers events starting with the formation of the first sapient beings and their tribes, covering even events that happened before the advent of recorded history. The world was vast and unknown. Empires rose, gods gave their favor and cast their curses. Great quests were undertaken. If the events of real world Greek, Norse, Hindi and other assorted mythologies were a historical period in their own right, it would look like the Erdezweian Age of the Ancients.
The Age of Iron
Covers the period between the rise of feudal lords and warriors and ends with the birth of mass industrialization. This was the era when Erdezwei most closely resembled your archetypal high fantasy setting. Kings ruled with fair hands or iron fists. Dragons were slain and adventurers quested for fame and fortune.
The Age of the Boiler
The Erdezweian industrial revolution; named for the steam powered machinery that became such a mainstay of life. Technically, this era also covers the era in which the internal combustion engine took center stage as well, ending with the mass proliferation of the microcomputer
