Dr Naïlo Mandartis
A drow born in The Underdark, Naïlo grew up rich. His father, Kyantu was a professor at the University of Minthara, an Underdark school for medicine. At the age of 8, Naïlo's mother, Misral grew sick, with nothing working to fix her condition. Eventually, she died, causing Kyantu to franticly begin studying necromancy. This led to him pushing his son aside to work late nights studying. As a way to rekindle the relationship with his father, Naïlo studied many books, and read many papers. After 2 years of consistent study, Naïlo joined Kyantu in searching for a way to bring back Misral.
At the age of 13, Kyantu and Naïlo took a trip to the surface in search of a rare ingredient believed to be the final component needed to bring Misral back to life. They ended up in the city of Ironhaven as the 4th Battle of Ironhaven ramped up. They fled from a demon into a store. As the sounds of chaos and bloodshed fell silent, the two exited the store, quickly making their way to the Underdark. On the way, they found themselves face to face with a Tiefling having just gained sentience. After Kyantu tried to defuse the situation, the tiefling slashed Kyantu's throat and ran away, leaving Naïlo to cradle his father's body.
Naïlo aimlessly wandered the ruined city for days, coming across the body of a disheveled one armed man face down, seemingly having been trampled to death. Upon his body, he found a book, which contained years of research in various magic fields.
He began to study necromancy and healing magic. He became one of the worlds leading authorities on the subject, beloved by many. He met Bloodkin Ra'zul in 1078, and began a sturdy friendship with him.
Ra'zul began to feel that violence may be the way forward. None of his violent acts were ever public, but Nailo knew. Naïlo tried his best to dissuade his friend from this path. In 1090, Ra'zul was part of a group of people that ruined Naïlo's attempt to finally reunite his family. The ritual was ruined, causing his parents to become shambling corpses, incapable of true speech.
Days after, Naïlo, his colleagues, and sympathetic citizens were exiled from Lothis, taking to the seas.
When Ra'zul was assassinated in 1093, Naïlo became a wreck. When The Horned Devils started to commit various violent acts, Naïlo spoke out against them. Citing his friendship with Bloodkin Ra'zul, he told them that their actions were a disgrace to the legacy of a great man, even though he knew better, he wished to preserve the legacy of his friend.
In 1102, Naïlo was in the process of
In 1113, on the anniversary of Ra'zul's death, Naïlo gave a speech about the possibility of ending violence all together. In his speech, he spoke about a part of the brain that could be altered to remove violent tendencies. He wished to do this to
Naïlo's clone is actually running things now. He has infected the other clones with his more violent and hateful tendencies.
The original Naïlo was injured and maimed by his clone for being too soft to achieve his goals.
His parents are both just shambling husks, unable to fully speak, Naïlo has begun to imagine that they speak to him. If someone were to cast speak with dead on them, all they would hear is them begging for death.
