Githyanki
The Githyanki were created by the gods, alongside Dragons, in order to combat the Illithid threat. Created as an ideal counter to the illithids, the Gith possesed certain psionic abilities. The Gith, alongside their lifelong companions, the Dragons, fought the Illithids, eventually giving their enemy the nickname, "Mind Flayers."
Through the hundreds of thousands of years they fought, the Gith eventually gained the upper hand. Over the course of 500 battles, they ended up decimating all but one Illithid ship. The ship in question belonged to General Zaheer, a vicious warlord with an insatiable thirst for blood and brains. The experimental technology he had upon his ship ended up working, allowing the Illithids to leave the astral plane.
Amongst the Gith, were those who wanted to pursue Zaheer, to finish what they had started and wipe the Illithids from existence. Conversely, there were those who believed that to slay a fleeing enemy was wrong. This led to a split amongst their people, those who wished to pursue general Zaheer became known as The Githzerai, or "Those who spurn the Gith." They took their dragons and traversed the realms searching for the Illithids.
The Gith were the majority of the army of the gods until the angels were created.
The Githyanki first came to Ereanor after Kellhice Stonebell had dreamwalked into the Astral plane. He met and conversed with the Gith, becoming a fast friend to their people. The gith decided to send some of their people to the material plane in order to attempt to preserve the balance of nature. They brought with them four red dragons, Geto, Kithra, Jan'darou, and the largest of them, Kal'tethrak. As time progressed, the Gith remained mostly unknown by the realm, save the Stonebell Magic academy, who offered them shelter.
After the discovery of Astra, a resource used to power machines and directly tied to the atsral plane, more Gith were sent to make sure that the residents of the material plane used this power responsibly.
