The Demon King Omega
Two thousand years ago, before the founding of our Republic, a conjurer tried to make a deal with a demon from Tartarus. It seems to have gone poorly, seeing as the demon escaped confinement and proceeded to plague Eregost.
The Demon would prowl the night, creeping into people's homes and killing them in their sleep before feasting on their souls, gaining more power with each kill.
This demon then dubbed itself Omega, the Demon King. It used its new power to summon more of its brethren and gain even more power. This chaos continued for five years before a group of Paladins and abjuration wizards who called themselves The Order of The Watchers decided to put an end to the mayhem. They slew Omega's lesser kin before restraining and banishing Omega, as they did not have the strength to defeat him.
Some hope that back in Tartarus, Omega angered a Titan who then slew him, but many others, including myself, worry that the Demon King lays in waiting, seeking an opportunity to restart its campaign of bloodshed.
An Account on Tartarus
As a scholar and traveller of multiple planes, I am in the rare position to be able to make the claim that Tartarus may just be the most fascinating yet dangerous realm of existence. Tartarus is an elder god far older than the Olympians or even the Titans.
Tartarus is the eldest child of Chaos, the primordial god and possibly the most powerful entity in existence. Whilst our realm is made from the union of Gaia and Uranos, Tartarus needed no partner to create the vast plane of existence he currently forms. Tartarus is both god and realm simultaneously.
Tartarus is a sadist and enjoys tormenting mortal and Titan alike. Being at the mercy of Tartarus himself is seen as the ultimate punishment. The realm of Tartarus is ever-shifting to torment those who have been cast into it by the gods.
Apart from the Titans and mortals being tortured in Tartarus, the only other living creatures in this realm are Demons, creatures of pure evil or madness. Demons are commanded by Tartarus to torment mortals, though the Titans are off limit to them. Tartarus prefers to handle the torment of divine beings himself.
Escaping Tartarus is only accomplishable with the aid of the Gods, or extremely powerful magic. The Gods seem to have an agreement with Tartarus, he does not threaten their reign and he allows them to occasionally pull his victims out of his realm, and in exchange they punish mortals by sending their souls to Tartarus. He also greatly appreciated them sending the defeated Titans to him to deal with.
Mages must be cautious in visiting his realm, as the demons with defend it with much vigor and determination. If you are to travel to this realm, it should be with good reason, as there is always a risk of you becoming trapped there yourself.
Each of my journeys to the hellish realm has been for knowledge and power. Exchanging secrets with the shades trapped there, and siphoning power from the demons that try stop me.
Many warlocks are in service to Tartarus, some even go as far as to sell their souls to the elder god. Others send the souls of those they have slain to Tartarus, often to the anger of the Hades.
The landscape in Tartarus is bleak. It appears as a dark reflection of our own plane of existence. Buildings are in ruin, all plants are dead and the sky is filled with ever-present storm clouds with red lightning streaking through the sky. The thunder made by these clouds is booming, shaking the ground with each noise it makes. In the sky you can see the shadowy silhouettes of the Titans themselves, with burning red chains restraining and tormenting them for all eternity.
Tartarus is many things. A punisher of the wicked. The warden of the Titans. A great abyss. But above all else, He is a force to be reckoned with.
The Daemons of Tartarus
Tartarus is not only occupied by the tormented souls of those who lived less than holy lives, it is also home to the entities responsible for their torment, Daemons. Daemons are born from the blood of their master, Tartarus, the abyss. These beings of abyssal origins act as punishers of the wicked, held in line by their father.
Daemons are beings born of the blood of the primordial force of the void, and so their motives are less than pure. At best, a Daemon is only concerned with their survival and quality of life, at worst they are motivated by pure sadism and love of carnage. Daemons are as shapeless as the great void from which they spawned. They appear as a vaguely humanoid mass of shadowy smoke and vapour, made from a darkness impossible to achieve through natural means. They have glowing eyes, often red in colour. All Daemons wear a crown with three small spires on it, made of the same material as their very being. Daemons can shift their form at will, giving them the ability to slip through small entryways and cracks, as well as being able to form weapons out of their own bodies. Some Daemons are even capable of taking on the forms of other creatures and people.
Daemons are capable of long distance teleportation, as long as they stay in total darkness. Daemons bring a new, literal meaning to "slipping into the shadows". Daemons are capable of draining the life force of their opponents, rejuvenating their own life at the same time. Some Daemons can inhabit the bodies of mortals, giving their host great power, but at the cost of their free will. Daemons are capable of manipulating the elemental forces of existence, causing infernos and blizzards with little effort.
A lone Daemon roaming our realm is more comparable to a force of nature than to a villain to be slain. Some Daemons have been known to rebel against their Abyssal Father, though none are more famous than the Daemon King, Omega. Over two thousand years ago, Omega was little more than a lesser Daemon, until he was summoned by an inexperienced conjurer who wished to make a deal with it. The conjurer most not have had adequate protection against the entity, for it killed him and feasted on his soul. This Daemon would prowl the nights, creep into the houses of those who were sleeping and kill them, absorbing their souls and becoming more powerful. This Daemon then dubbed himself Omega, which was Ancient Authenian for "The End of All Things", crowned himself the King of Daemons and used his new-found power to summon more of his lesser brethren. Omega and his army caused havoc and destruction on a scale more akin to the wrath of a lesser god than to a mere supernatural threat. Five years after his summoning, Omega's army was defeated by a group of paladins and abjuration wizards, who called themselves The Order of the Watchers. Omega's lesser kin were killed, but they could still not slay the Daemon King, so they banished him back to the realm of Tartarus, where he has yet to have been heard from since.
