Dorian York

A former Freelancer agent that specialized in infiltration, Agent York is a fugitive from the Authenian Government for sedition and desertion, with no allies apart from his AI fragment, Delta.

Physical Description

Identifying Characteristics

York has a small scar over his left eye, and that eye has turned from brown to grey. York relies on Delta to help watch over his left side, in order to counteract his blindside.

Specialized Equipment

York wears lightweight plate armour that has been painted tan in colour in order to camouflage him in deserts and forests. This armour includes a chestplate, wristguards, kneeguards and leather underarmour. This armour is inscribed with multiple arcane ruins so that it is connected to Delta at all times, and subsequently, Agent York. There is a small container on the lower back of the armour that houses his special equipment.
Delta is an AI fragment that was surgically attatched to the base of York's skull. They share a portion of York's mind, which allows them to communicate through thoughts, not just words. AI fragments like Delta view time at a far different rate than most mortals, and are capable of hatching complex plans while waiting for a bullet to leave the barrel of a gun. This massively increased reaction time means that Delta is never caught off guard or without a plan. Delta has the appearance of a glowing, light green, humanoid silhouette. Delta has a vast bank of knowledge that he can share with York at anytime.
All freelancer agents were given a piece of advanced equipment, often a fusion between science and magic, and Agent York was no different. York was given a Healing Unit, which slowly heals all wounds on his body, and keeps sickness at bay. It is thanks to this healing unit that York has survived on the run for as long as he has. While it can be used without an AI fragment, it is far more effective with Delta running it.

Personal history

Dorian York was originally a recruit within the guards of Olympia, but it quickly became noticed that he had a knack for getting into places he shouldn't be able to, during training he frequently stole the bullets from his commanding officer's musket just to embarrass him during demonstrations, and would pick the lock on his door so that he could randomly place his bullets around his office.
While his commanding officer saw this as nothing but childish immaturity, the unique talents of Dorian York eventually became known to higher up members of the AMC, and so he was sent as one of the many potential recruits for Project Freelancer.
And so after months of intense training, Dorian York became Agent York. Trained in the art of infiltration, firearms and even a small amount of arcane spells. The Freelancers were ranked based on how well they performed on missions, and Agent York was ranked at fifth place. One year into the Project, the first AI fragment was created, and one month after, Agent York was assigned his very own AI fragment: Delta.
Delta is a being comprised almost entirely of logic, making his personality less relatable than most other AI fragments. Agent York disliked Delta for his lack of social ques and his lack of understanding for any behaviour that was not completely logical, and Delta was frustrated by the fact that Agent York would often ignore his advice and favour less logical tactics. Over time, the two began to reach an agreement, York would listen to Delta's suggestions more often and in return, Delta would have to make an effort to understand customs and illogical behaviour.
York eventually began a romantic relationship with the highest ranking freelancer, Agent Carolina. After an injury left York blind in one eye, Carolina became increasingly protective of him both on and off the battlefield.
The last freelancer to be accepted into the ranks was Agent Texas. She quickly rose up in the ranks, and became the highest ranking freelancer, much to the chagrin of Agent Carolina. Carolina quickly became obsessed with training, out of an overwhelming desire to reclaim the number one position.
This is where the story of Agent York, and the Freelancers in general, began to become obscure and classified. Agent Texas somehow managed to convince some of the freelancers to assault the restricted areas of the Father of Innovation, and Agent York was one of these freelancers. He fought Agent Wyoming in order to allow Agent Texas to traverse further into the depths of the ship. During the chaos, an explosion severely damaged the hull of the FOI, giving Agent York time to escape. Many freelancers would also leave in this moment, including Agent Wyoming as he saw Project Freelancer as a lost cause.
For six years, Agent York has been on the run from the Authenian government, surviving through petty thievery and hunting. He has had little contact with anyone besides Delta, who he has become rather close with due to their isolation. He now spends his time barely surviving, and teaching Delta what it means to be a person.

Intellectual Characteristics

The years of isolation that York has experienced has forced him to ponder the nature of himself and the world around him, and he enjoys discussing philosophy with Delta throughout the day in order to pass the time.

Motivation

York has no grand plans beyond his own safety and the safety of Delta. He tries as hard as possible to keep a low profile, not only out of fear of being arrested by the Authenian government, but also out of fear of being killed by the man that was once Agent Maine.

Savvies & Ineptitudes

York is incredibly skilled in the art of infiltration. He can open locks like child's play and can slip through guarded areas with casual ease. He is a skilled pickpocket as well.
York is well trained with most weaponry, particularly pistols, though he is also well versed in how to wield daggers and crossbows.
Thanks to partially sharing his mind with Delta, York is now rather knowledgeable in mortal anatomy, geography, history, biology and many other subjects. Delta is capable of sharing this information with York at any time, giving him great versatility.

Social

Contacts & Relations

Delta is currently York's only companion, and the two have grown to rely on another in order to survive. With utter trust in one each other, York and Delta have become close friends who spend their days debating their next move and discussing philosophy.
York and Agent Carolina were once romantically involved in one another, but whatever love or care they had seemed to die the day that York decided to help Agent Texas go against the Director, whereas Agent Carolina stayed loyal. Their relationship is now irrelevant, as during Agent Maine's outburst and subsequent escape, Agent Carolina was pronounced missing in action and assumed dead, and it is assumed that her AI fragment and equipment was stolen by Agent Maine.
York was close friends with Agent North, and they spent much of their free time together, along with Agent Washington. York and North shared a similar sense of humour, and York trusted North with whatever information he was given by Agent Texas, leading to both of them betraying Project Freelancer and going rogue.
Agent York and Agent Washington were close, practically seeing each other as brothers. Agent York found Washington's relative innocence and kind nature to be rather endearing. One week before many freelancers went rogue, Agent Washington was scheduled to be implanted with his own AI fragment, Epsilon. When the Epsilon unit was implanted, Washington awoke and started screaming hysterically, and muttering sentences from a life that was not his own, before falling into a coma. When Washington awoke again, York was already on the run, and Agent Washington was not the same man he once was.

Social Aptitude

York keeps a friendly and laid-back attitude towards life, always maintaining a cool demeanour. He is normally a very sociable person, able to hold conversations with others for hours, tell jokes in dramatic and serious situations and often took it upon himself to lighten the mood around the FOI.
