Qualifications

The appointed Grand Archivist must be a master wizard with a trustworthy reputation. Any significant failures deminish the chances of any would be mage from achieving such a prestigious rank. The wizard in question must have published at least five books of significant quality.

Responsibilities

The Grand Archivist is responsibe for keeping the Authenian Archives safe from harm, and accumulating new knowledge. The Grand Archivist must make certain that the Archives are safe from both external and internal dangers. They must manage all magical defenses, such as glyphs and constructs. Grand Archivists must also contribute new pieces of knowledge to the already extensive libraries of the Archives. They often do this by going on expeditions to both other planes of existence and by excavating antient ruins and burial sites. Uncovering texts and artifacts of great power. The Grand Archivist is occasionally tasked with teaching the students of the Archives about the many wonders of the Archives, from the defensive glyphs, to the animated suits of armour, to even the friendly ghosts that fly thoughout the Archives, fufilling the duties they once preformed in life.

Benefits

The Grand Archivist has unrestricted access to the entirety of the Authenian Archives, giving them access to an uncountable number of book, both arcane and educational. They also have unrestricted access to all of the magical artifacts and specimens within the Achives, many of which are of insurmountable and incomprehensible power, making the Grand Archivist both one of the wisest and most powerful people in Eregost.

Cultural Significance

The Grand Archivist is seen as a protector of an entire culture and history, and as such is treated with an extremely high amount of respect. The Grand Archivist is both teacher and faithful watchman, lesser scholars are often intimidated by their presence yet seek their approval. The Grand Archivist is both proof of the greatness a mage can accomplish if they are determined, and a warning of what a rogue mage would have to face if they dared to face off against the Authenian Arcane Committee. Both an inspiring demonstration of determination and an imposing figure enforcing order and discipline into all rebelious mages.

Notable Holders

Church Paratir is the current holder of the title of Grand Archivist. He is known for his irratable disposition and his vast intellect. He has achieved much, both in scholarly persuits and in his displays of power and reluctant heroism. Most scholars see him as a grumpy wizard who can flatten a dragon, yet dramatically sighs and groans whenever someone asks for his help finding books on a certain subject.
