Procurator
"If a Legate is an extention of the Empire's military might and martial strategy, then a Procurator is an extention of its cunning and diplomatic skill. Legates declare war on their enemies, Procurators have them poisoned or make certain they conveniently disappear" ~ Dione Syggraf, author of Authenian Guide to the EmpireProcurators are regional leaders that oversee Venatorian territory on behalf of Vigilo Angelius. They act as an extention of the Emperor's will and also serve as judges.
Appointment
Procurators are appointed by the Emperor himself, there are no elections to determine who rules a region in Venatorian territory. Procurators are apointed due to their ability to assess dangers to a nation, root out treachery and legal knowledge. Many Procurators were once Centurions who ran towns or former Venatorian spies.
Duties
Procurators are expected to welcome diplomats from the Authenian Republic into their homes. This is often followed by a formal dinner party, and long discussions about trade, their shared history and current events.
Responsibilities
A Procurator is expected to manage a region within the Venatorian Empire, ensuring that laws are obeyed, taxes are paid and no assets go to waste.
Procurators are expected to keep tabs on the activities of their citizens, which they often accomplish by employing spies. They use these spies to root out seditious behaviour, and once any potential terrorist or rebel is detected, a warant for their arrest is delivered.
Procurators are meant to assess and potential dangers their region is facing, from an increase in bear population to an upcoming drought. They are expected to be able to prevent these disasters from happening, or at least be able to limit the damage it causes.
Procurators act as judges in any major legal disputes happening within their region, and most are known for implementing brutal justice to those who are convicted. Procurators are able to sentence people to death, either through a formal execution or right on the spot.
Benefits
Procurators live incredibly luxurious lives, as they are paid handsomely and tend to live in large mansions that also serve as their office.
Procurators can order any Venatorian soldier in their region, and their authority can only be overruled by a Legate or by the Emperor himself
Procurators are often heavily guarded, their living spaces have legionnaires and triarii patrolling throughout it, and they often have a single Praetorian Guard acting as their personal bodyguard.
Procurators have the authority to sentence a civilian to death, even without a trial.

Equates to
The closest Authenian equivelent to a Procurator would be a Senator, though the roles are still rather different. While both a Senator and a Procurator rule over a region of their nation, a Senator is bound by stricter laws than a Procurator, though a Senator has a say in the actions of their nation, whereas only the Emperor controls the actions of the Venatorian Empire.
