Cold Iron Corruption
Cold Iron Corruption is the result of prolonged exposure to Cold Iron.
Transmission & Vectors
Prolongued physical contact with cold iron results in Cold Iron Corruption. Those that work the metal are at much higher risk of contracting this disease, where it often sets into the lungs.
Causes
Cold Iron Corruption is caused when small particles of cold iron become embedded in a living being, causing it to fall out of balance with nature.
Symptoms
The victim is gripped with terrible chills and their skin progressively turns a dull metallic hue. Eventually, the victim suffers stiffening and lack of sensation at the location where contact is prolonged, such as fingers and hands from weapons.
Treatment
Cold Iron Corruption is almost impossible to treat with herbalism and other natural remedies. Alchemy proves far more useful, but even this discipline doesn't guarantee recovery.
Prognosis
As long a contact is brief and the disease is treated in its early stages, recovery can occur. However, should the disease enter the lungs, a condition known as Iron Lung, it is usually fatal, as the lungs stiffen and breathing becomes increasingly difficult.
Affected Groups
The dwarves of the Cold Iron clan are especially vulnerable to the disease as they are the only known group with the knowledge and technique to work the metal with any real skill. Iron lung is fairly prevelant among their smiths.
Prevention
Wearing gloves while wielding items made from cold iron is effecting in preventing topical contraction of the disease. Masks are required to prevent Iron Lung.
