Jotun
The Jotnar (singular: Jotun) are a species of humanoid resulting from a mixing of human and frost giant in the distant past.
Jotnar average 7-8' tall and can weigh up to 500 lbs.
Their appearance, while generally human, can also include those that are monstrously ugly to unearthly beautiful.
Jotnar tend towards paler skin than humans but not the stark white of their frost giant ancestors. Hair tends to be dark although blond and red are also found among them.
Their relations with the other races are varied, and range from benevolent to villainous.
Jotnar come from Jotunheim, a rugged, mountainous land wedged between Nordheim and the Niflheim, land of frost giants, where they live a hardscrabble life, often fighting over resources with their ancestral cousins. However, peaceful interactions also occur between the Jotnar and their neighbors, and they often act as middle men for trade between the Nords and frost giants.
Jotnar are highly adapted to cold and are able to withstand extremes that would freeze lesser species, although this resistance is not unlimited. Conversely, Jotnar do not handle heat well, and can suffer heat exhaustion or worse in climates that others find easier to tolerate.
Jotnar sorcerers tend towards frost and cold magic, tend to have pale blond hair, light blue eyes, and a light blue tint to their skin. They are better able to resist the cold than their nonmagical kin but are even more susceptible to the heat. The birth of these children are considered a good omen an they often grow to positions of great power in Jotnar society, either as warriors or magic-users.
