Iron Forge

Iron Forge is a Dwarven city located in the Dragon's Nest Mountains. The residents there swear that their city is the grandest and most ancient Dwarf settlement in all of Erellion. It is a tanistry ruled by King Cormack Brasshand.

Demographics

90% dwarf, 5% gnome, 5% mixed (human, duergar, etc.)

Government

IronForge is a tanistry. It is governed by a king, but the ruler is not necessarily the eldest descendant. The next ruler is chosen by an assembly of the high clans (generally while the current king is living) from the children or nephews of the king. A male is always chosen unless there are no male heirs.   The King's council is made up of the high clans, each one represented on the council by their eldest male and succession is the same as the kingship.

Defences

Being an underground city gives IronForge a leg up on defense. There is one entrance to the surface, which consists of two sets of gates one at the entrance and one set deep into the mountain. Both consist of portcullis and guard rooms as well as arrow slits and the like. There is an entrance to the city from the underworld as well via an underground river. There is a well guarded gate here as well.

Industry & Trade

The mines of IronForge as the name suggests produces iron. Generally this iron is turned to steel which is the biggest export of the city along with the items made from it. These items are regarded as exceptional quality even for Dwarf standards and are priced accordingly. The city is not self sustaining from an agricultural or livestock standpoint and imports the vast majority of it's foodstuffs and livestock. The city is willing to pay a premium for these items and caravans make this city a frequent stop.

Infrastructure

IronForge
Large underground city containing a Great Hall, Throne Room, residential areas, temples, shrines, markets, above and below ground trading posts.

Assets

The city of IronForge is well known for it's riches. It contains untold amounts of jewels and precious metals mined from the surrounding mountains for thousands of years. It's craftsmen are regarded throughout Erellion as the finest in the land.

Guilds and Factions

There are not guilds or factions, but there are clans. There are high clans (royalty) and low clans (generally referred to as clans) which are the "commoners". Each clan starts as a low clan and can be risen to high clan only by royal decree. This usually occurs after a clan has a long and storied history of service to the throne or can be gained by a great deed performed by the clan. Clans can be demoted to low clans should they falter in their service to the crown.

Geography

IronForge is located underground in the Dragon's Nest Mountains . There is one surface entrance and one entrance below accessed by underground river. There are trading posts both at the surface and for the underdark.

Natural Resources

Iron is the largest resource of IronForge, which is then exported. There are also a significant amount of precious stones mined here as well.
