Petrobolt Hold FKA Anvilhead Keep
This gnomish keep guards the main roadways east of Goldencrest.
This large stone fort was erected over a thousand years ago by goodly dwarves during the Ghulwar and was originally named the Anvilhead Keep. Goodly dwarves, humans, and elves occupied the fort during the war fighting off Ghul’s evil forces for many years.
Ghulwar’s forces laid siege to Anvilhead Keep for 150 days, though the structure of hold did not waiver, the inhabitants of the hold were forced to surrender with limited food and supplies. Capture of the Keep coincided with Ghul’s conquest of Tirine.
In the many years between the original concession of the fort following the 150 day siege and the end of the Ghulwar in 416, the Keep changed hands several times as each side struggled to maintain control over Tirine. As the war waged on the Keep began to deteriorate and eventually lost much of its original integrity.
Eventually after the defeat of Ghul and his banishment from the Realm forever, the Petrobolt Clan of Gnomes took residency in the ruins of the fort and over the proceeding centuries rebuilt the keep from ruin with Gnomish architecture and ingenuity and expanding the once smaller fort into fortified settlement.
Outside the keep stand Gnomish guards holding glaives roughly 3 times their height. A tightly wound rope appears to be coiled around an axel where the blades are attached to the shaft. These are the Petrobolt Keep Gnome Honor Guard. These gnomes are specially trained in the use of the Gnome Ripsaw Glaive. The wielder can pull the tightly wound rope causing the blades of the glaive to spin rapidly for a short time making them particularly deadly.
Within the large stone walls of Petrobolt Hold, is a mechanistic wonder-dome of engineering miracles. An intricate but organized system of pulleys, whistles, elevators, and gears appears to seamlessly move mail, goods, food, water, and even people throughout the settlement.
For over 8 centuries the residents of Petrobolt Hold have been away from their forest dwelling cousins and the fey realms they protect. The Petrobolt Gnomes, through curiosity and experimentation developed their craftsmanship, professionalism, and knowledge. Time away from their ancestral home has dwindled their innate magical abilities, many gnomes in this community are born without this innate magic and for those who are it is limited.
