Session 12 - The trip north Report
General Summary
The party finished the 9 day journey north from Lumberfell arriving in The City of Wayhill as the air begins to chill significantly from the impending arrival of winter.
For several of their group this is their first visit to a city of any kind, let alone the wonder that is Wayhill. As the sky darkens the group approaches the triple walled southern gate of the city and are met by more than half a dozen guards. Many of the guards seem green and unsure of what they are doing but one man takes charge.
Draylon Artest takes Braylin aside and explains to him that Thrall might be a problem, that people here are not necessarily racist, although they will look at an orc cautiously but that most people here are regimented and straight laced and might take offense to his presence.
The group takes lodging at the Quiver and Stallion Inn where they meet Beatrice Stallart and her son Folton Stallart . After checking in and paying for the rooms, Thrall tries to get Folton to bring him to a whore house, but Carter intervenes and appeals to Thrall's love of meat and mead. They take Folton on an errand to get those items and meet Renold who sells Thrall a couple of casks of mead and tells him that if he speaks about women like objects in front of his wife he is likely to get his member cut off.
With everyone settled in Thrall and Beatrice cook chicken skewers and goat stew in the "kitch-en" which impresses Thrall to no end.
The next day the group departs for the market. Braylin again notices the pipes coming out of the ground at each building and surmises that in the colder months they are used to transfer heat from the forges throughout the city to the homes and businesses in order to heat them.
As they make their way up the main avenue, they have an encounter with a young girl who rushes out of a tower and yells "Wilkerson's dog is loose again! Wilkerson's dog is loose again!" She turns away from the party and sprints up the street revealing that the back of her dress is neatly shredded. Bounding after the girl is a surprising creation... a mechanical dog!
As Braylin tries to get the dogs attention diverted from the girl, Thrall rushes forward and smashes it as he gets scalded by steam and takes a couple hits of his own before disassembling the construct by way of Doom Hammer.
Soon a disheveled man emerges from the same tower that the girl and dog escaped from and greets the party. He introduces himself as Wilkerson Highburn .
He invites them into his tower which is an unorganized chaotic mess of gears, potions, notes, cages, half-eaten food, etc. He begins explaining that he is trying to use ioun stones as a mean of powering his clockwork creation as well as giving it certain abilities. As this happens there is a knock at the door, the fuzz has come to investigate!
Thrall holds off the investigating guards, headed by Captain LeRay while Wilkerson hides. Once that is resolved the majority of the group leaves while Braylin and Wilkerson bond over alchemy and inventing. Braylin is gifted notes from Wilkerson and the pair spend hours exchanging ideas.
The rest of the group finally makes it to the market and are greeted by sounds and smells from all of the cultures of Erellion.
Thrall buys some minor equipment (bandolier) and Mueller is able to do some bartering to get a good deal on potions. While this is going on Carter spies a pregnant woman Gillian Castille who purposely knocks over some rolls at a baker's stall then deftly steals a large loaf of bread. Carter follows her and tries to get her to give the bread back, but she stubbornly refuses.
Thrall follows the sounds of exotic music and finds women who are dancing for tips in the market. He tries to get them to satisfy his cravings but they refuse and instead he is introduced to Sabek who is willing to guide Thrall to the women that he seeks. Kharos decides that it would be the lesser of evils if he keeps an eye on Thrall while he satisfies his lusts with the women of the night rather than have him keep harassing every woman he sees.
Thrall is FINALLY led to a whorehouse where he promptly grabs the closest women and satisfies his needs of the flesh. Kharos waits outside and afterwards the pair head across the street to the Gnawing Bag, a smoky drug den where the two are introduced to Halfling Weed .
While this is all going on, Mueller and Carter are searching for spell components and the like. They are directed to an area of the market that is a little "looser" than the rest of the places they have visited. They are greeted by a halfling who lures them into his small tent which at first glance contains exactly the items that Carter is looking for. The halfling implores Carter to try a dry, black fungus that he hands over which upon further inspection turns out to be an addictive drug known as Dream Flake .
As soon as they realize this, the watch burst in and the halfling fled through the back of the tent. Not willing/able to pursue the watch turned their attention to Carter and Mueller where they were searched and told that they were in a drug den and holding an illegal substance. In the end they were given an warning and told not to be seen in the presence of Billy Blackteeth again!
After that commotion they were able to procure the components they were looking for without further incident.
Thrall and Kharos returned, stoned and mellow. This finally allowed the party to sell the items that were stowed in the bag of holding and gain some coin for the party to shop with.
This is where we left off. Please let me know if there is more business you wish to do in the city, technically the group has paid to stay there for a few more days so feel free to explore. Send me emails with what you want to shop for or places you want to visit.
