The Wasting Shallows

The Wasting Shallows is a swampy, desolate area. It first appeared in approximately -250 and slowly spread, swallowing Listra's Wood and the elf population with it. Arcane scholar's are still unsure of what caused it's appearance and what properties it has that draws the elves to it. Not much else is known and it has been left alone except for the few hearty adventurers that seek it's secrets.

Geography

The Wasting Shallows is a swamp located in the Enbrook Region north of Enbrook and east of what is left of Listra's Wood . The swamp appeared about 250 years before the new gods arrived and slowly spread out, swallowing at least half of Listra's Wood. It stopped spreading after about 50 years and remains in it's current state since.

Ecosystem

The swamp is full of life, and yet is eerily quite. An abundance of unique and exotic plant life can be seen within, including colorful flowers that bloom throughout. However there is little seen in the way of fauna and the swamp is eerily quiet.

Ecosystem Cycles

The swamp seems to be untouched by the cycles around it. Almost as though in a stasis of sorts and unaffected by regional weather.

Localized Phenomena

The swamp has an eerie undefinable quality about it. While beautiful flowers can be seen within there is little else of notice. The local weather of the swamp also seems to remain stable and unchanging throughout the year and the seasons, maintaining a warm temperate climate year round. A hazy fog, not overly thick blankets the area throughout. No animals are heard from outside of the swamp and little else is heard also.

Fauna & Flora

Anyone brave enough to approach the swamp notices beautiful exotic flowers that can be seen throughout the edges of the swamp amongst the remains of the trees from the eleven forest. Nothing in the way of animals, insects, reptiles or the like can be seen or heard from the outskirts of the swamp. It is unknown what lies within at this point.

History

The swamp first appeared around year -250. It slowly expanded west, swallowing Listra's Wood as it grew. For reasons yet discovered the elves of the region were drawn to the swamp over time. They entered the swamp in groups, walking as though not of their own mind and disappeared, never to be heard from again. The elf disappearances stopped around -50 and the swamp sits there still in brooding silence.
