Ahun

Population: Approximately 20,000; mixed races with majority human, dragonborn, orc, and halfling. One of the biggest cities in the world, well known for being one of the last standing cities after the war of the gods. A treasure trove of information with the largest library.   Government: Ahun is ruled by a tyrant, the dwarf lord Nemeta, though a senate of elected representatives has significant influence and power.
Notable Places:
  • The Arena: A large oval amphitheater, said to be built upon the ruins of the temple of a goddess of strength.
  • The Shrine of Kunenu: A stone statue of Kunenu, God of Dragons, surrounded by an arched peristyle.
  • Library of Alhstan: a great library filled with books and knowledge from across the world. Accessible by all, for a price paid for the wages and upkeep of the place.
Artist's Borough A raucous area, much louder than one would imagine given the name of the district. There are colorful banners, flags, sculptures, clothing, and people everywhere. The first time seeing this might be disorienting to most. There are many street performers in the area though there aren’t any inns, taverns, or food shops.
Notable Places:
  • Ahebet's Anvil: A neglected blacksmith's workshop, built around a volcanic fissure filled with flames.
Bridge Market Bridge market is located in the slums. It is a rather sad area and true to its name is located under a large bridge with little pop-up shade tents and blankets on the ground with wares carefully placed on top. Only the essentials are found here, and while they are cheaper they are usually not in great condition.   Brighttower Farthing One of two ways into the inner city, Brighttower Farthing is a militant district. There are several bunkers and armories, with a few private smithies in the area. Despite being a city maintained district it is slightly falling apart. Many hopefuls join up with the guards here with wishes of being promoted to the inner city.
Notable Places:
  • The Old Wall: A section of an old town wall divides several blocks. The ghosts of a town guard can sometimes be seen walking upon it.
  • The ruins of Retaisy Tower.
Castle Ward The richest area of town. Only high ranking citizens and very wealthy merchants are able to live here. Each house is a block of its own with carefully maintained gardens and beautifully sculpted buildings.
Notable Places:
  • Heruate's Pottery: A cluttered potter's workshop, built within what was once a titan's tankard.
  • The Broken Hammer: An elegant dwarven inn, built around a hewn stone impaled by a sword.
Cobble Market Located in the inner city, the cobble market is one of the only markets with a very nicely solid cobbled sandstone ground. Prices are excessively high and rare items are more likely to be found here.
Greater Hydra's Village Found just west of the Artist’s borough, the Greater Hydra’s Village is a small grouping of nice homes. Many of the city’s artisans live here and work in the Borough nearby. Like the Borough, this area is elevated, looking down on the slums to the East.
Notable Places:
  • The Shrine of Miniute: A stone statue of Miniute, Lord of Trickery, said to reveal visions to those who leave an offering.
  • Herald's Market
  • A nice general market area with decent prices and people. Nothing too notable about this area other than it is fairly well maintained.
Hydra's Ward Many of the families of soldiers from Brighttower Farthing live here. There are hospitals and healers here as well. It is a relatively nice and well maintained, but not well off area.
Notable Places:
  • The Gallows Tree: A long-dead ironwood tree, said to be haunted by the ghosts of the thieves and murderers which once hung from it.
  • A tall column of rough-hewn stone, placed to honor a local god of healing.
  • The Shrine of Pare: A stone monolith engraved with the holy symbol of Pare, God of the Sun, said to bestow favor to those who leave an offering.
Knightsfane Village Knightsfane is a small section of the town guarding one of two entrances to the inner city with the other being Brighttower. Several high ranking guards and their families live here. There are more private shops here, mostly artisans who have crafts to entertain the families while their guards are on duty.
Notable Places:
  • Pasena's Woodwork: The workshop of a male dwarf woodcarver named Pasena, known for his intricate puzzle boxes.
  • Tetahue's Pottery: The workshop of a female dwarf potter named Tetahue, who knows the secret of an alchemical clay which is as durable as iron.
Knightstower Ward Located in the inner city, this is mostly an adventuring district. With various adventuring shops, weapon and armor smiths of note, and potion makers. It is an expensive area, with shopkeepers overcharging unless you are an adventurer of notable repute.
Notable Places:
  • The Harper and Flask: A heroic adventurer's tavern, which serves only wine.
Lake District Lake District is within the slums area of town. It is decrepit and falling apart, and few people of note make their living here. There are, however, lots of rumors, inns, and gambling dens. It is a good place to seek out information.
Notable Places:
  • Tenptemhay's Folly: A tower of rune-carved stone stands upon a rise in the land. It was built by an eccentric aristocrat named Tenptemhay many years ago, for no apparent purpose.
  • The ruins of Tare Tower.
  • Seteka's Carvings: The workshop of a male dwarf woodcarver named Seteka, who also brews potions and elixirs.
Mastiff's District Located in the inner city, this district contains the Library of Alhstan. While claiming to be open to all, few outsiders are actually allowed entrance to the inner city. This is a very wealthy area of the city and though there aren’t many shops or houses there are several shrines/holy locations for various deities and religions.
Notable Places:
  • An arch of hewn crystal, which floats several feet above the ground.
  • Moor Farthing
  • The lowest of the low live here. The wealth disparity is massive in Ahun and few who grow up in Moor Farthing live beyond age 20. Coincidentally, this is also one of the largest districts of the city.
Ravenstemple Borough Ravenstemple Borough is actually located underneath the inner city. It was made as a quick means of escape out of the inner city in the event of catastrophe and is heavily guarded. There are many rumors about the real purpose of Ravenstemple, but no one has concrete answers.
Notable Places:
  • The Armory: A buttressed half-timbered building, a station of the town guard. It adjoins a small gaol used to detain thieves and scofflaws.
  • A menhir of polished stone, said to entomb an ancient and powerful demon.
Rogue's Market The Rogue’s Market is a place for cheap deals and likely scams. While some shops are generous and have a good repute, others are known for having thieves pilfer from you while you browse their wares.   Upper Rogue's District This area is better off than Moor Farthing, but only because those who inhabit this area have made their living by less than moral means.
Notable Places:
  • Senubkhuy's Forge: The workshop of a female dwarf blacksmith named Senubkhuy, known for her vast knowledge of dwarven runes and glyphs.
  • Tisemkhuy's Carvings: The workshop of a female dwarf woodcarver named Tisemkhuy, who is rumored to be a noble of the Sidhe Court.
  • The Crossed Hammers: A large dwarven tavern, known for the illusions which entertain its patrons.
Whitekeep Village Whitekeep is the area for new adventurers in town. This district has plenty of Inns, taverns, and people to run them. There are nearby shops in the Rogue’s Market and Herald’s Market, depending on the risk you want to take.
