The Maw is a crevice that appears to be carved out of the earth. It has a fainly glowing pinkish-purple aura. The area is not unlike the fae forest in that it is saturated with magic. The magic, however, is not wild magic but pure, untapped aether. The maw is believed to be the birthplace of modern day magic and an area blessed by the Old Gods. It is the only place on the planet where magic is taught professionally. Otherwise you might find a hermit hiding on the outskirts of a town, in a forest, or a mountain cave.
The Maw is a place feared by most of those who know it exist. Magic is uncommon in the world and as such is feared by the majority as an unknown. However, it is also a sanctuary for magic wielders where they can publicly use magic. Magic has been incorporated into daily life in The Maw with small teleportation runes spread throughout the city for ease of travel, as well as heated water using runes for basic daily use. Little convenient magical inventions are everywhere in the city, making it one of the safest and easiest places to live. Though due to peoples' fears of magic the city's population is relatively low.
