Weapons of Mass Destruction
Following the Antarctic Disaster, it was only a matter of time before someone realised that the stuff could be used as a weapon of mass destruction. All the Houses and their allies clambered to build missiles and attempted to one-off each other. It works like this: there was a 'condensing chamber' in the Antarctic disaster that was able to attract and store Particles, though it was rather unstable. The Disaster occurred when all the Particles were emptied simultaneously, causing a massive burst of energy and more peculiar side effects. The missiles work in the same way, on a smaller scale. However, it implemented an incredibly rare metal that can absorb the Particles, increasing their reliability. Fortunately for the Greater Houses, they had a number of artefacts containing the metal so a good deal of those was pulled out of museums and melted down.
These missiles 'suck in' the Particles but begin to leak when the capacity is reached; though it's not immediately fatal, it's still dangerous for those without affinity and quite painful for those with it. Interestingly, the missiles are so good at absorbing that people cannot manipulate Particles near them. This means that even the Powers are powerless near them.
