Cold Stone

Cold Stones are created by the Nida and used in the singular to make cold treats, or are formed together to make a Cold Box. The stones are flat, thin, highly polished squares that are cooled to freezing temperatures by Ice (combination of Water/Air) aspect Elemental magic.
Nida Rune craftspeople add Ice aspect runes to the Stones and sell them at the Night Market. The runes can be activated by a particular gift (usually depends on where they are being sold or the craft person's own limitations), so that even those without the uncommon Ice aspect Elemental Gift can freeze their stone(s). Using a rune will consume it; wiping it from the stone. Vendors at the Night Market will reapply runes to old stones for a fee.
On a single stone, crushed, sugared fruit can be placed on the stone to make sorbet rolls or a custard base to roll iced cream. When six stones are fused to make a cold box, it can be filled with water and tapped to make a block of ice. Stands at the Night Market use the Cold Box to make shaved ice as well as chipping ice out to cool drinks. Many restaurants use Cold Boxes as well, and they count on house calls to recharge them when the Night Market is in town, as non-Nida rune crafters are few and far between.
