Brigedda's Touch
Transmission & Vectors
This mental illness is given to mortals by the goddess of Madness and Secrets, Brigedda. Most people would consider this to be a curse, but there are followers of the goddess and members of her priesthood that would consider this to be a blessing from her.
Causes
There are a number of ways that this can be inflicted on a mortal. One way is for the afflicted to have angered the goddess in some shape or form and the madness is inflicted as a punishment. Another possible cause is that a worshiper has asked to be inflicted. A much more likely reason is that the goddess just got bored and decided to torment a poor soul at random.
Symptoms
The inflicted will have a range of mental afflictions placed upon them, depending on the goddess' mood at the time, this includes any combination of memory loss, paranoia, anxiety, hallucinations, lack of grasp on reality and disorientation.
Treatment
Treatment can involve therapy to let the mind heal itself, or pleading with the goddess can alleviate the symptoms if she feels you are worth curing.
Prognosis
The afflicted will usually remain in their maddened state indefinitely unless actions are taken to help cure them of the ailment. The only time the affliction is fatal is if the anxiety develops into depression and the afflicted decides to take their own life.
Prevention
Prevention would be to stay on Brigedda's good side and not purposefully provoking her into doing something that would result in being afflicted. Praying to her and telling her secrets you know is a good way to remain in her favour.
Epidemiology
Luckily this is not contagious, although Brigedda does sometimes afflict several people at the same time with similar symptoms if they are part of a group that has wronged her in some way.
