Q: How did this get so long? A: I spent way too much time researching diseases for this.
So, if you made it this far down the article, you get a fun fact! There are no confirmed cases of rabies being transmitted between humans by any means other than organ transplants (as per the CDC). So no real-life werewolves, unfortunately. Just a boring old disease that you can't cure once symptoms appear.
