Daran's Diadem

"It is said when the time comes again for the dwarves to unify, Daran's Diadem will be found again."
— Telmar Wavebreak, Dwarven Historian
When the Adamant Clan became the Clan of High Kings, their craftsfolk worked on a symbol for their authority. A variety of objects were created from mithril and adamantine, except for the crown. The Adamant Diadem was crafted from orichalcum and mithril and set with a large black diamond cut into a square shape, a gem known among dwarves as the 'Kingstone' for how rare it is. When the stone was cut into the shape for the crown, any viable chips were saved and inserted into the mithril portions with each successive generation. This meant the decorative aspects of the Adamant Diadem were always changing to suit the current High King, but the core of it remained as it was created.

After the last stand at Adamant Hall, the tribe led by Grasha of the Red Axe looted what they could find which was useful and returned to the wilderness of Gilvonnaie. Among the trophies was the crown of the High King, and while many of the other treasures were recovered when the Red Axe Tribe was slaughtered the Adamant Diadem remains lost. Attempts to divine its location have run afoul of enchantments placed on it to prevent scrying on the High King, and other methods have been unsuccessful in uncovering where it went to. After the legend of the Last of the High Kings grew,

The dwarves of Erisdaire have legends and superstitions regarding the position of High King, as well as Daran's Diadem itself. Since the crown has been lost, an idea has grown suggesting dwarves showing fealty to any one Clan was against "dwarven nature". This led to most Clans believing the loss to be a sign such a thing "was not meant to be", and if the crown is ever found then it is to simply be placed in the Adamant Tomb. Other Clans hold an opinion of Daran's Diadem as a symbol of unity which should be used, and its recovery would be a sign the time has come again for a High King.
