Dragons

Dragons were feared and mighty rulers of the skies of Eodonora. Traditionally recognized as Magic-wielding beasts that were capable of flight, they came in many varieties and subspecies and effectively held dominion over all non-civilized areas of the world.

Behaviour

The Dragons are not believed to have held an internal society among themselves, but did follow a hierarchy of some form, with a half-dozen dragons comprising a class that could order and govern others as they wished. In practice, this rarely was brought into action, however.   Most Dragons were described to be prideful creatures, aware of their position at the top of the natural order, but typically there was no pattern to their personalities and alignment. Some were tyrannical beasts that ruled over their territory, menacing those that would disturb their resting grounds - Others attempted to be benevolent to civilized societies, either allowing them to co-exist, or in one exceptionally notable case with the city state of Ihhir, chose to become part of its foundation.

Biology

Dragons came in many varieties, each belonging to one of several orders known as "castes". A common trait between all of them is that they are scaled creatures, capable of flight. In particular, the majority of dragons came from one of two castes: Azzeth, and Permia. Azzethian Dragons possessed four legs and were proficient at both ground and air traversal, with long, thick tails and large wings. They possessed tough, scaled bodies, and had immense physical strength.   Permian Dragons, however, were very different, possessing long, slender and serpent-like bodies, possessing two arm-like appendages near the front of their body. They boasted tremendous agility while airborne, capable of keeping themselves above ground with no need for traditional modes of flight such as Wings - This was believed to be due to the Dragons' inherent ties to the Magical flow. What they lacked for in strength compared to their Azzethian rivals they compensated with tremendous Arcane strength, with some of the most powerful magi in legend either being directly related to Permians, or being among them.

Arcane Abilities

Dragons possessed special affinity towards the Arcane elements, with each specializing in a particular form of Magic - Such as Evoking, Imaging, Warping, etc. This specific type of Art would come to its respective Dragon as naturally as breathing, and with training they could become powerful masters of it. While it was not impossible for a Dragon to instead reject their natural gift and learn a different form of power, this would ultimately prove to be rare.
