Religion in Erra
The concept of religious deities in Erra was once a firm belief upheld by their close connection to Arcana and the Magic that would be used in daily life. The Pantheon of gods oversaw many different aspects of the living world, from elements to the principles of life and death themselves. Following The Collapse, the Gods of Erra have since fallen silent.
Pantheon
The Pantheon of gods in Erra was expansive, with an associated divine being to a wide variety of the world's aspects. Below you will find a list of the named Gods and their related Aspect. Deities were worshipped on a largely individual basis. People of many races would dedicate themselves to what was typically one specific deity from the Pantheon, incorporating them as part of their daily lives. Often times this god would have some relevance to their occupation or way of life - It was generally considered atypical for faith in a deity to not benefit them in some form. Individuals that devoted themselves to a deity to a level considered acceptable by their god would allegedly receive blessings in some form - For instance, a Blacksmith that followed Etrix would have their flames control their temperature with greater ease, improving the efficiency of their work. Faith and the Divine were considered an everyday facet of Erra, and non-belief or skepticism in the gods was treated as an unusual prospect. There were even scarce rumours that individuals devoting their entire lives to the gods would meet their respected Divine - Either through visions, or even in person. However, these reports were never corroborated. While the gods were usually worshipped on a personal level, sites of faith were built to honour them in locales related to their aspects. Ceremonies and rituals would be held at these sites by devout followers of their Divine, those looking to increase their stature in regards to their faith, or individuals repenting for a transgression committed against their god. It is commonly believed that the Divine had a strong link to Magic in the Old World, as faith-based Arcana was the most frequently used and widely available form of Magic before The Collapse. It is speculated that the advent of The Collapse may, therefore, be in some way linked to the disappearance of the Pantheon.Post-Collapse
In the days following The Collapse, individuals expectedly looked towards their faith and the Divine for assistance in their greatest hour of need. However, as was commonly reported, no answers would be given. Magic was gone, and with it the faith-based Arcana that had been so frequently relied upon would never be performed again. No communication was offered - no help. It was as if the Gods had vanished as well during the event. In the decades that followed, the vestiges of faith towards the Divine would decay and fade away, with the common people either angrily rejecting their faith, or losing hope in hearing from them again. To this day, the concept of believing in the Gods as beings that are alive and present in the world of Erra is treated as unusual, with doubt in the minds that they had ever existed to begin with and were not simply traditional forms of Magic casting.Remove these ads.
