Ervelt

Ervelt is a region in Dierda. It is a narrow strip of land that separates two great oceans. This makes it a very important area of trade. Because of its location, many nations wanted to settle there leading to a large number of wars fighting to control this strip of land and thus control the trade between the two oceans. The wars very very bloody and expensive in both resources and lives. The countries fought hard over the area, but no one county was strong enough to hold the land against the others. In the end it was decided that this land would remain free. A treaty was drawn up with rules regarding what influence countries could or could not have. This treaty insures the safety of the city states that developed in the Ervelt, but also limits their growth. Many believe that it is only a matter of time until there is another, even more costly war to control the region.
