The Treaty of Iloa

The treaty was drawn up after the conquest of Iloa by the so-called Dark King Cieron to prevent renewed fighting between humans and strigoi. It regulates dealings between strigoi, mages and humans and was negotiated between the strigoi, humans and mages. Members of every social class were present.

The following are the most important sections and agreements:

Handling and protecting humans
  • Children are taboo. It is not permitted to bite a child, force it to work or harm it in any other way.
  • Adults may not be bitten against their will.
  • Adults are allowed to work as dispensers in the household of a strigoi. In this case, the strigoi must take care of the donor's health.
  • People who have been bitten by a strigoi against their will can turn to the mages or the king at any time to have the strigoi severely punished.

Rights and duties of the council
  • The council has the right to challenge a decision of the king. In such a case, a vote is taken by the council.
  • The Council has the right to elect its members independently of the King's will.
  • The Council has a duty to represent the interests of all sections of the population.
  • The Council has a duty to ensure that the King acts for the good of the people.
  • The council must ensure that it consists of members from all peoples living on Iloa.

Rights and duties of magicians
  • Mages have the right to practice magic freely as long as they are taught the consequences.
  • The mages have the right to structure their order themselves and to choose their Grand Mages and Archmage without outside interference.
  • The mages have the right to decide for themselves how to train novices and adepts.
  • The mages have the duty to teach the adepts the history of Iloa, including the plagues and battles.
  • The mages have the duty to support the king in the fight against renegade strigoi.
  • The mages are obliged to protect the people from all kinds of vampires.

Election of the king or queen
  • The successor to the currently reigning king or queen must always be a strigoi in order to prevent conflicts with the other vampires.
  • The current king/queen can propose a successor, regardless of whether he or she is of royal blood. The council then decides whether it approves the decision. If this is not the case, it proposes a successor to whom the king/queen must give his or her consent. If he does not approve the proposal either, the council and the king must sit down together and consult until they reach an agreement.
  • If the current King does not appoint a successor, the Council must find a successor from among the Strigoi. Two thirds of the council members must agree with the choice.

The Treaty of Iloa was signed by the King, all members of the First Council, the Grand Mages and the Archmage.
