Port Sclav

Port Sclav was first erected as a tradepost for Valennian explorers centuries ago. As they traversed the Attlecier Ocean and investigated the southern coast of Weströnd, it became apparent to the adventurers that they needed a place to make port. Capitalizing on the strategic location of Hooktooth Island, the sailors established Port Sclav. In conjunction with other settlements like Engletown and Port Wolhem, the Valennians were able to establish a viable trade network throughout the region. As time went on and the Valennian’s influence in the area waned, Port Sclav was left to its own devices in terms of both rule and survival. Following the departure of Valennian power in the region, Port Sclav would be left to make decisions for itself for some time. This would change with the arrival of the Stormgårdians. While they initially laid their eyes on establishing Alexandria, the Stormgårdians eventually made their way to the mainland and took Port Sclav in the process. The small town would eventually become a staging area for a large portion of the slave trade that the Stormgårdians are well known for.   Port Sclav is a brutal town, led by a brutal man. Currently, the settlement serves as one of the two major waypoints for future slaves of the empire to enter the nation’s borders. Here, these peoples’ will is broken and what is left is trained to serve as free labor for the empire. Slaves are then either sent to the Red Mountains to mine gold and silver, to the various plantations throughout the Stormlands and Feldrlands, or further north to the Sea of Trees to work the lumber yards.   The primary source of slaves for the empire has long been conquered peoples, prisoners of war, and the most marginalized in society. With the advent of piracy throughout the Southern Sea, Port Sclav has found a way to keep a healthy flow of new thralls entering the empire. While Stormgård’s official policy towards the pirates of the Southern Sea is that of hostility, the leadership of Port Sclav has made an exception for those crews who are willing to deliver fresh laborers to their shores.

Government

Port Sclav is led by a copper dragonborn named Ekrid Webb, also called Ekrid the Cruel. As governor, he has commanded the port town for over a decade and is a staunch loyalist to the Stormgård crown. Despite the empire’s public animus towards the pirate communities, it is well-known that Ekrid’s interactions with certain crews is condoned by the crown so long as they continue to deliver slaves to their shores.   Governor Webb command’s a small troop of Stormgård soldiers to help keep order in Port Sclav and defend its walls from outside assault. However, the real source of the law in town is a group called the Taskmasters. These ruthless individuals act as the right hand of Webb, enforcing the law and preparing slaves for the empire. The most notable of these Taskmasters is a man named Osvald Krogh, Governor Webb’s top lieutenant.

Industry & Trade

The economy of Port Sclav is highly concentrated around the slave trade. Most basic supplies and services can be found in Port Sclav, with the occasional rare item finding its way to the harbor town from the pirate crews that unload their wares here.
