Templars of the Trident

The Templars of the Trident are a chivalric order that first arrived in the Aislada Isles shortly following the island chain’s discovery by Rawthorn Attlecier. The formation of this knightly order dates back to the War of the Fallen. During the conflict between the Astral gods, many mortal champions came forth to fight on behalf of their respective denizens. One particularly powerful and well-respected paladin named Valkur became a prominent figure during the war. Valkur was a devout follower of the Mystic, Sehanine, and the leader of a small band of knights. Due to his unyielding bravery and determination during the cosmic confrontation, Valkur was deemed the “Captain of the Waves” and was deemed a demigod by Sehanine, ascending to the rank of exarch.   While many knights and adventures who worship the Mystic exist all throughout the lands of Esos, those who consider themselves members of the Templars of the Trident almost exclusively reside in the Aislada Isles. Taking influence from their exalted founder, the members of the Trident traveled to the New World in the hopes of protecting misguided sailors and travelers, while embracing and defending the beauty of the oceans and the many journeys and adventures that await upon them.   When the Templars of the Trident first arrived in Engletown, the territory was still commanded by the Valensword League. The knightly order did their best to uphold the peace and maintain law and order in the name of the island’s governor. However, as time passed and the influence of the pirate community grew within Tenireef, the members of the Trident began to recognize the tyrannical and oppressive nature of the Valennians. Following the Thirteen Day War and the establishment of the Gang of Eight, the Templars assumed the role of de facto peacekeepers amongst the Aislada Isles. While the chivalric order does not outwardly support the more criminal and scandalous elements of the pirate culture, they do endorse and appreciate their opposition to oppressive forces, commitment to the oceans, and respect for liberty.

Goals

The immediate goal of the Templars of the Trident is to maintain a relative peace amongst the various pirate factions residing within the Aislada Isles. Members of the Trident are committed to protecting the residents of the island chain, as well as any and all travelers and adventures that take to the high seas. The Templars pledge to the Mystic keeps them honor bound to protect those who wander the world in search of new opportunities and in pursuit of freedom.

Relationships

The Templars of the Trident hold an interesting position among the Aislada Isles. Their presence dates back well before the arrival and formation of the Wayfarer’s Society. While the island chain was under the occupation of the Valensword League, the Templars maintained a status typical of most chivalric orders within Valennian society. However, as the pirate influence grew within the region and the templar faction recognized the shortcomings and oppressive nature of the Valensword League, the Templars of the Trident found themselves supporting the agenda of the Wayfarer’s Society.
Currently, the Templars act as the de facto law keepers amongst the Aislada Isles. Their authority on the island chain can be tenuous at times, with many of the pirate community antagonizing and challenging their presence; however, the captains that comprise the Gang of Eight fully recognize the contribution the knightly order made during the Thirteen Day War and accept the influence that they wield.
