A Catalog of Planes
A Prudeflyn Tome
Elemental Superplanes
Superplanes are like massive bubbles that overlap with each other. Where they overlap creates the planes we are familiar with today. It's possible that rather than being entirely encompassed within the overlapping elements, that other planes are superimposed overtop, and the plane will manifest the elements in direct proportion to the balance of superplanes it interacts with. While there are most likely pure planes of each element where it does not overlap with any other plane, it's possible that it's also not the case as it's become clear through much research that creatures of an elemental nature do not necessarily originate from a pure plane of existence but are a manifestation of the existence of the superplane over the plane they are manifest in.
Superplane of Air, Earth, Fire & Water
These are base elements, and the superplanes of these cross over to create a variety of planes including the Prime major plane. While I never have visited the superplanes, you can see their effects and even sort of map their effect by visiting and mapping planes of certain characteristics.
Superplane of Arcana
Unlike the previous four elemental planes, The Plane of Arcana is purely theoretical, and, due to the nature of planeswalking may be forever theoretical. Because our mode of mapping planes and stepping from one plane to another is a purely arcanic mode, we are naturally limited to the theoretical plane's reach. As we believe material planes are formed in the overlapping pockets of two or more elemental planes we could theorize that any plane we are able to visit also overlaps with an arcanic elemental plane, and that planes may exist beyond the arcane bubble that we are unable to reach without some other mode of transport. As such, it is a both disappointing and fascinating prospect then to understand that a full catalog of planes in existence can never be truly ascertained.
Other Theoretical Elemental Planes
Less tangible elements that seem to impact other planes of existence and may also be considered 'bubbles' of influence over a plane include Light, Goodness (as opposed to evil), and Order. There may be an infinite number of elemental planes that we are entirely unaware of because those bubbles do not impact the planes we have access to or they are elements we are unable to perceive.
Anti-Planes
Many planes have a perceived opposite plane that we can see manifest. For example if there is a good plane, there must also be an evil plane. However another interpretation of this may be a lack of a good plane or an incomplete encompassing of a good plane allows evil to enter. This requires the possibility that planes are not just nebulous existences but associated with some unknown force and may possibly give us a clue into the source of power for gods in relation to these planes and their unnatural ability to manipulate them even outside the typical rules of arcana.
Major Planes
Major planes as we understand them exist where elemental plane 'bubbles' overlap. Depending on the specific overlapping elements, major planes may be hostile and appear very differently from each other. It is also possible that the same elements may overlap creating a very similar major plane to our Prime major plane.
Prime Major Plane
This is the plane of my home, an overlap of many elemental planes. A plane that is a decidedly unique plane not among the theoretical possibilities but of all planes I've visited. For one, it is the only plane I've found with a level of protection to the plane, protection that must originate from somewhere or must have been set up by someone but as to whom or why is totally unknown to even many ancient beings who are clearly aware of the protection. The protection stops anyone who is not either 1) invited to the plane or 2) an original being of the plane from traveling to or opening a doorway to the Prime plane. Doorways from the Prime plane to others do not appear to hit this protection, it is only incoming travel or portals that originate from other planes that seem to run into trouble. More than once I found myself among natives of other planes surprised at my ability to simply go home.
The Nine Hells
The Nine Hells is actually a series of nine major planes conquered by Anakmadeus and arranged to limit travel and provide security against invaders.
The Abyss
The Abyss is the domain of demons, forever at war both within and without. The plane is a bottomless pit, with regions roughly divided along the vertical of the pit into layers and princedoms. Only the upper layers of the abyss seem to have a plethora of portals elsewhere, the deeper you go the rarer they seem to become. Each layer has a massive hole in the center where one can ascen and descend layers. Layers can be massive, many times the landmass of Estia and contain entire oceans and continents within themselves. There is no single ruler of the abyss, rather regions of a layer, an entire layer or multiple layers are ruled by Lords or Princes. The layers of the abyss are beyond trecherous, not only are the inhabitants strong, deadly and have a bent towards chaotic destruction but the plane itself seems to have a deadling, maddening and oppressive nature.
Feywild
A rough translation of the true name, this major plane is most similar to our own albeit with a splash more chaos, magic and a great deal less development.
Aldogaljurd
A plane with no surface, or at least none that I saw. The plane is still quite rich with life, bioluminescent fungi, plants and a heavy chain of carnivorous creatures. Locals seemed to believe that their world was essentially in a massive, cooled pocket of lava, and digging to far to the edge could result in flooding the pocket and destroying the world.
Belihadri
What I would surmise is the Draconic homeplane. Generally hostile to outsiders, so I didn't stay long but everything seemed oversized and extreme.
Minor Planes
Minor planes are often referred to as pocket dimensions. They exist as a bubble within a bubble, but are distinct in 2 characteristics, they are tied directly to arcana and you cannot create a minor plane within another minor plane. Bags of holding are an example of a minor plane, an area that exists and can contain matter, but never try to put a bag of holding inside another of itself. Rather it tears at the arcanic forces and will rip a hole through all present planes straight to the Astral Void.
Astral Void
The space between spaces. Sometimes also called the Astral Sea, it is a mind-boggling space between planes where they seem to float aimlessly about. For most it is the main mode of travel between planes, and some characteristic seems to make the portals stay open indefinitely, except of course for the Prime major plane. The Astral Void also contains no natural portals to the Prime major plane that I've found. What I've discovered about the Astral Void could fill another tome, so I won't go into depth here, but suffice to say the space is dangerous and yet incredibly useful.
