Talenbai

History

In 2676 AoK, King Aeron comissioned a well known wizard, Prudeflyn to build the most secure prison in the world after hearing of his many successes in building pocket dimensions. Two years later, Prudeflyn successfully completed Bavarnedan.   King Aeron was impressed, and immediately had the prison staffed and began sending the worst offenders to the prison. The prison worked so well that King Aeron gave anyone sentenced to death the option to spend the rest of their life in Bavarnedan instead.
Bavarnedan buh-VAR-neh-DAN From an old elven dialect, a clever literal translation meaning both "Only safe for the dead" and "A safe containing the dead." The common name became Prison of the Dead.

As time went on, a settlement began around the prison and warden towers to host prisoner escorts, pleading families and prison workers. However the land around the prison began to die, making it impossible to farm and further deepening the infamy of the prison. So a port was built for fishing, and prisoners were shipped in by sea. The warden towers were made into an onyx stronghold, and the settlement took on the name Talenbai.

During The Fracturing, Talenbai became of the capitol of Escar, and Bavarnedan became a local business and attraction. Other factions and countries could send their worst to Escar if they were willing to pay the price. And the death spreading out from the city attracted all kinds of seedy characters, bounty hunters, death cults and the like. But strangely enough the prison's secrets were lost to time, veiling it and the Warden's Tower in a shroud of mystery. Locals could only guess at the vast number of horrible villains that wasted away beneath the city but not once had there ever been a breakout. And not once had anyone ever sentenced to Bavarnedan ever returned.
