Tésá

The Tésá are a curious species which very little is truly known about. They've never been spotted beyond the island of Isteria, and they have no known origin. Some speculate they are extraplanar and were sent to Isteria back when it was a penal colony to prevent racial corruption but this does not fit with records kept from Estian time periods.

Tésá are not large creatures, only standing about 4ft tall when fully grown. They are often considered lizardfolk, however many of the features resemble that of frogs rather than lizards. They have color-changing skin that allows them to camoflauge into the jungle brush, and they are thus known for their ambush attacks.

Tésá are also known for druidic-like magic, and their ability to manipulate primarily plant life in the Isterian jungle. While there are some instances where a Tésá was recorded being able to control another animal, this was rarely seen and the animals never tended to be much larger than the Tésá themself.

What is known is that there were several settlements of Tésá on Isteria when the Kajuzurie established their settlements. Territory disputes between the Tésá (and other sentient races of Isteria) and Kajuzurie led to fierce battles, and dwindling numbers on both sides. The Tésá were deemed part of the Umétafí and suffered a genocidal campaign through which they barely survived. To avoid total annihiliation, the Tésá became subterranean dwellers, and adopted a unique form of communication that is utilized by other Umétafí as well known as stone-ticking. Intercepted messages are the only way it's known that the Tésá still exist today.

There are a lot of stories about lizardfolk living under the earth. I like that you gave a background to it. (I also like that you extended them to also resemble frogs)
