Disciple Initiation

Doubling as both a religious and a coming-of-age ceremony, the Disciple Initiation rites are performed whenever a Disciple achieves another milestone in their quest to prove their devotion to Nadyn.

History

The Disciple Initiation began after the Order fractured and collapsed, with only the quietly devout being reinitiated. Needing a means of determining how long a Disciple had been in service to Nadyn- as their entire hierarchy depended on it- the Disciples begun tattooing their chevron onto the devout, with more elaborate tattoos for more years in the Order.

Execution

The highlight of the ceremony is in expanding on the Chevron tattoos that all disciples have. This is traditionally done with a Runic Pen and magical ink that, when traced over again, will be erased, however the Disciples can make do with a traditional fountain pen and their own magic, though the ritual takes upwards of a week without a specialized pen.

Participants

Because the ceremony takes place year-round, there is a team of high-level Disciples dedicated to performing the ritual. They often join with the official artists to come up with tattoos and designs that are unique to every disciple and help capture their journey into Nadyn's light.

Observance

The ceremony takes place year-round, on a Disciple's birthday, and they recieve their first chevrons- small emblems on the back of their hands- when they turn twenty. From there, they return at their 25th, 35th, 50th, and 100th birthdays.   Disciples that remain devoted their entire lives can sometimes have lifespans up to and exceeding 120 years, and their chevrons are altered from the black-and-white traditional designs to full-color, magical designs that shimmer and move and evolve with their growth within the Order. The longest-living mortal Disciple is currently 135 years old.
