Grimm Marks

Rarely, for some Fey and Channelers, they may be born with a type of marking known as a Grimm Mark. These are markings that are always located on the face, most commonly as a horizontal line, but can otherwise come in a wide array of different colours and shapes and are almost completely unique to the individual. Grimm Marks are both a blessing and a curse for the individual - while those with a Grimm Mark have significantly more powerful spells and Magic reservoirs, this comes at a cost of calories. Whenever an individual with a Grimm Mark casts a spell while their Magic reservoirs are insufficient, the spell will instead consume a certain amount of calories equivalent to the power of the spell. As such, those with a Grimm Mark must be as careful and wary of using to much up at once, as being reckless can easily lead to the individual's death.

Documented Styles

While a Grimm Marking is unique to each individual, there are in fact commonalities between certain styles of Grimm Marks. While not all of these styles have been properly documented, the Eternian Archives has managed to make a list of some of the more distinct types they've noticed.
  • Horizontal Line - As mentioned above, this is the most common version of a Grimm Mark. This style consists of a line of varying thickness that goes either across the forehead or centre of the face, which can also be adorned with small shaped around it
  • Vine Marking - This is a variation of the Horizontal Line style. This one is near identical to a Horizontal Line, with the exception that it goes across the face vertically; it most commonly intersects with at least one of the individual's eyes.
  • Cheek Dots - This is one of the more common types, though it is still rarer than both of the above versions. This style consists of a pair of dots, or similar shapes, that are located on the individual's cheeks; on rarer occasions, these dots can be multiplied into 2 or rarely even 3 total sets.
  • Star Dot - This is a variation of the Cheek Dots style. This one is near identical to Cheek Dots, with the exception of them only having one dot that is located in the centre of the individual's forehead.
  • Warpaint Marking - This is an uncommon style of Grimm Marks, though it's not necessarily unheard of. This style consists of a thick strip of colour that is wide enough to cover the individual's eyes, or at the very least the "primary" set of eyes.
  • Assymetrical Dot - This is an uncommon style of Grimm Marks. This style is almost the exact same to the style of Cheek Dots, though for this style the shape only appears on a single cheek.
  • Tiger Bites - This is a more uncommon style of Grimm Marks. This style consists of a pair of lines located on either side of the individual's lower lip; like most other line-based styles, the lines can be accentuated with minor shapes.
  • Striped Nose - This is a more uncommon style for Grimm Marks. This style consists of a small shape that is located on the tip of the individual's nose, with other shapes oftentimes surrounding that one.
  • Flowerbuds - This is one of the more uncommon styles for Grimm Marks. This style consists of at least one pair of flower-like shapes located on either side of the individual's face; sometimes small vine-like lines can connect between multiple of them, though this is a very rare thing for this style.
  • Lip Decorations - This is one of the more uncommon styles for Grimm Marks. This style consists of some sort of pattern or colouring across one or both parts of the individual's lip. This Grimm Mark most commonly affects just the lower lip, with the entire lips being next common and only the upper lip being the rarest.
  • Stretching Scars - This is one of the more uncommon styles for Grimm Marks. This style consists of several long but thin markings that go across parts of their face, normally ending around their mouth or nose.
  • Diamond Bridge - This is a more uncommon style of Grimm Marks. This style consists of a bunch of small diamond shapes located across the bridge of the individual's nose; on rare occasions, this can pass further than the bridge, though it never passes the centre of where the "primary" eyes are.
  • Underdots - This is one of the more uncommon styles for Grimm Marks. This style consists of at least 3 small dots located underneath the "primary" set of eyes; this style of Grimm Marking almost always has the eyelids of the individual also coloured, though they rarely ever have anything else going on.
  • Chin Markings - This is one of the rarer styles of Grimm Marks. This style consists of a line or multiple lines that go vertically down from the individual's lower set lip and crosses down their chin.
  • Eye Leaks - This is one of the rarer styles of Grimm Marks. This style consists of a pair of long markings that go from the eyes all the way down to the individual's jaw; this style of Grimm Marks is actually highly customizable, with very few with the Eye Leaks style sharing much more than the basic layout.
  • Eye Dapplings - This is one of the rarer styles of Grimm Marks. This style consists of area around the individual's "primary" eyes being decorated by various different shades of the same colour. It normally covers at least the entirety of the area up to the start of the bridge of the nose, though both larger and shorter variations do exist.
  • False Horns - This is one of the rarer styles of Grimm Marks. This style consists of a pair of large lines that start on the forehead but go across most of the individual's cranium down to near where it curves into the back; many of the False Horns style also tend to thicken out near the centre, with some rarely even having line cutouts going through these areas.
  • Fire Beard - This is one of the rarer styles of Grimm Marks. This style consists of a pair of triangular shapes that are located on either side of the face, which go from near the chin all the way up to the cheekbones - while the broad shape is always the same, they can still have a wide array of shapes that decorate them or are cut out from them.
  • Leaflashes - This is one of the rarer styles of Grimm Marks. This style consists of 3 to 6 leaf- or flower-like markings located underneath either set of "primary" eyes; on rare occasions, their upper eyelids can also be coloured in.
  • Curved Lines - This is one of the rarer styles for Grimm Marks. This style consists of at least one set of curved lines which are located on the individual's cheeks that, unlike a Horizontal Line, never leave that area; like other line markings, most are accentuated with smaller shapes around them.
  • Scaled Forehead - This is one of the rarer styles for Grimm Marks. This style consists of 3 to 5 rows of small, scale-like markings that are located on the individual's forehead; these scale-like markings can either be entirely coloured in or only have the edges coloured in.
  • Bright Mouth - This is one of the rarer styles of Grimm Marks. This style consists of the chin and lower jaw being coloured in a colour unnatural to the rest of their body, which can sometimes go up to cover their entire mouth area; this is the only known Grimm Mark to be able to affect anything below the head, with some people with this Grimm Mark having the front of their necks also coloured.
  • Covered Half - This is the second rarest style of Grimm Marks known. This style consists of half of the individual's face being covered with various lines and patterns - while it covers up almost the entirety of the face, it never consists of a solid block of colour and instead is essentially a maze of interlocking patterns.
  • Eye Colouring - The rarest of all Grimm Marking styles by far, with only a handful of individuals ever being seen with it. This style consists of at least one of the individual's eyes being blocked in with a solid colour - while it is capable of affecting more than one eye, at least one of the individual's eyes have always retained the natural appearance of their Lineage's eyes.
