Sigils/Runes
A Sigil or Rune is a symbol that helps invoke Magical power. There are 12 recognized Schools of Magic, with each one having a Sigil/Rune that is associated with it. Sigils and Runes can be used in a variety of ways, such as designing or containing a Spell, writing a magical scroll and enchanting Magical objects. Their origin has been a long-debated mystery, with it being likely that there have been hundreds of different "original" versions.
Sigils/Runes are often required when it comes to designing more complex, nuanced spells. Most written spells start out with a simple design - which is oftentimes based off of one of the Sigils/Runes from the 12 Main Schools - but as a spell becomes more complex, so too does the Sigil/Rune. Some Sigils and Runes are so detailed that they can take weeks, months or even years in order to complete them.
Sigils and Runes are differentiated by how they're marked onto something; Sigils are essentially drawn or written onto an object, while Runes are carved into an object.
