The Morbus Doctore

The Morbus Doctore appeared shortly after the release of the Weeping Pox. Wearing strange coats and masks meant to protect them from the disease, they wander the city looking for newly infected people. But only a fool would submit to their treatments, as they are known to conduct unbearable experiments on their “patients”. They seem to be convinced that the Weeping Pox actually is a blessing that must be studied, exploited, and controlled to bring humanity forward to a new level of existence. Listening ears have heard them speak of “the Great One from the Bay” in reverential and fascinated terms.   The Morbus Doctore have been enlisted by Marquis du Mortier to contain the Weeping Pox at all costs. The Marquis' desperation to get the pandemic under control has afforded the Morbus Doctore broad tolerance in their choice of means in this endeavor. Rumors of infected children being abducted at night have begun to grow, though the outcry has fallen on deaf ears, "better to have the street rats in a cell than spreading this sickness further" to quote the Marquis.   The Morbus Doctore don't have a strictly hierarchical structure, seeing themselves as a loose association of academics all aimed at understanding the nature of the Weeping Pox and eventually bending it to their will. The current de facto leader of the Morbus Doctore is known only as Typhus the Sparrow. He is credited with developing one of the first therapies for the Weeping Pox. He has been able to amass a considerable fortune by providing his services to merchants and aristocrats unlucky enough to contract the disease. With his newfound resources, he has begun expanding research facilities throughout Liesech and establishing "clinics" to treat those of more modest means. Those who cannot afford to pay in coin are often asked to become test subjects in exchange for the cure. Little is known about the goings on in these experiments, as cured peasants mysteriously have little recollection of their treatment.... A common side effect of the cure, so says the good doctor Typhus.
