Chieftain of the Skies
The Chieftain of the skies are the clan leaders within the avian folk. They are usually the oldest person in the clan, but in some groups, the chieftain gets elected democratically, causing younger clan members to get the position.
Chieftains have multiple duties, including watching over the clan and resolving internal clan conflicts. The clan heads have the right to have a say in the formation of laws and moral rules during the quarterly clan gatherings within the Realm of the Skies.
Career
Qualifications
Old age, the life experience associated with it, a clear vision, and knowing each and every clan member is the base qualification in most clans. Other important traits and skills are:
- Social and empathic skills
- Diplomatic and argumentative skills
- Inventiveness
- Helpfulness
- An eye for the common good
Career Progression
The career progression depends on the used system within the group. There are three known systems:
- The oldest member of the clan gets assigned to the role.
- The role gets passed down to the oldest child of the current leader.
- The leader gets determined by election.
Oldest Member gets assigned
The next leader gets trained as soon as it is foreseeable that the current leader dies or passes off the role voluntarily. In rare cases, if the current leader dies more quickly than expected or abruptly due to an accident, the next candidate in line can be trained by the chieftain of a neighboring clan.Oldest Child gets assigned
The oldest child of the current leader gets trained as soon as they are old enough to bear the duty and to take over some of the tasks. This is usually the case at an age between 17 and 20. When the training begins, the child acts as an assistant and substitution in case of the absence of the current chieftain due to the clan gathering or other unforeseen events.Election
The election method is usually only chosen if it is a larger group of multiple non-blood-related families. In most cases, a new chieftain gets elected every few years and trained by the current leader after the election's conclusion. The current chieftain then acts as an assistant and substitution in case of the absence of the new leader due to the clan gathering or other unforeseen events.
