Sathiid's Haunt is the name of the disease that remains after a successful infestation of a Sophont by a Vampire Vines.
This disease affects both the physical and mental well-being of the afflicted, it hampers natural regeneration, induces hemorraging, and imparts a impending feeling of dread and doom.
When we pulled Guan out of the vines, it was a scene set to wrench our stomaches. The Vines had burrowed into her legs, wriggling about under the flesh and bulging the fur. She had no energy to scream, the paralysis had set in. She could only stare at the sky in fear.
We could fare no better, even when we pulled the wriggling vines from the wounds, the blood never ceased. The wounds did not close no matter how much cloth we stuffed into the gouges.
Even after stabilizing her in the hospital, and getting her motor senses back, she could only plead for death. The Sathiid's Haunt clutched at her body and mind for weeks.
A Mental and Physical Paralysis
Sathiid's Haunt is transmitted through the digestive enzymes released by the Vampire Vines as they consume a host. The disease mutiliates the surrounding tissues of and prevents natural regeneration of wounds it. It also prevents cougalation of blood, leading to a painful death by hemorrhagic shock.
To note, while Vampire Vines contain a paralytic property, it does not deaden the nerves of the victim leaving them to suffer in still agony. It is considering one of the worst diseases of which requires immediate attention to prevent death.
A Counter to Modern Medicine
One reason the disease is so devestating is it counters the hyper-regenerative properties of modern Sophonts. Despite its name, it prevents the strain of Sathiid used in regeneration of tissue.
While it is survivable, the resulting mental trauma can take major therapy to recover from. In liue of medical attention, only time can dull the pain left behind by Sathiid's Haunt.
