The Watcher Myth in Ethnis | World Anvil

The Watcher

A Myth of a Horrifying Hunter

I. SEE. YOU.
— The Watcher
The consistency of the myth of The Watcher is what terrifies me about him. You don't see this kind of consistency in myth—they grow, change, adapt, expand, and do anything else they can to stay relevant to culture. Not The Watcher, The Watcher goes unchanged. The Watcher is consistent.   For this reason I'm convinced that The Watcher is not real.

The Watcher is a character of myth dating back hundreds, if not thousands of years. The Myths about him are alarmingly consistent over time, and portray him as being a Sophont, massive Laughing Night with the ability to cast his gaze anywhere within Ethnis. He is often also credited with the ability to teleport, which leads many to believe that if he is real that he is a Focus with some limited capabilities of teleportation.   He is described as enjoying a good hunt, and will choose arbitrary people through Ethnis to hunt down and consume.
