Fluvan Silkhound

A beautiful dog

The Fluvan silkhound is a breed of dog almost exclusively found in Fluvansii. It is a relatively old breed, with similar looking dogs depicted in art from more than a millennium ago. It was originally bred for its beauty, and that has not changed over the years. They are a medium-sized dog, with the average silkhound measuring around twenty inches at the withers. They have long floppy ears and an almost absurdly long nose, which their ancestors probably used for poking into burrows. They also have a mane of soft fur around their head and neck, which is allowed to grow longer than the fur on the rest of their body. There are two sub breeds of Fluvan silkhound, the silver and the gold. Silver silkhounds are white to light grey in colour, whilst gold silkhounds are a buttery cream colour.   Many owners in Fluvansii use natural dyes to colour lengths of their dogs' manes, and it is not uncommon to plait said mane or decorate it with ribbons or beads. The longer the nose, the more beautiful the dog is considered.
Silkhounds are a popular subject for art. Rich Fluvans who get their portraits painted are often painted alongside their dog(s).   The silkhound has a calm temperament, but can become easily bored if not stimulated. They still have an ancestral prey drive and will take off running after small animals if not well trained.

Oh, I somehow have the idea that the dogs are styled like their owners and thus reflect them. Is the dog a status symbol for the rich when they have their portraits taken with the dogs? Would it also be possible to cut the hair and use it in a similar way to wool?

I kind of love the idea of the dogs being styled after their owners. They are definitely a status symbol. I bet some people have definitely used their fur as a textile before, I like that idea, thank you :D

What lovely dogs! Are there issues with them being treated as a fashion accessory rather than a living creature?

Some people definitely neglect their training because they see them as accessories rather than actual dogs, which can lead to behavioural issues. :(
