Kesterhal is the capital city of the island nation of Esteos. With a population of forty thousand, it is one of the top ten largest cities on the whole of the continent of Caia. It is located on the southern coast of Esteos, where the climate ranges from warm to hot all year round. Most of the denizens of Kesterhal are native Estic shapeshifters, with a couple of thousand hailing from the island's two human clans.
The city itself is built mostly from sandstone, painted in light colours such as white and cream to reflect the heat of the sun. Most of its main streets are paved, though smaller streets and alleyways are still packed dirt. The city grew organically, so residential streets are mixed with commercial, religious, and public buildings, instead of there being designated zones.
