When travelling into the deep forests in the land formally known as Vasethal - now the countries of Caillah and Serukis - the Koushan Mai believe that it is important to carry an apple with you. This is so that, if you were to be as unfortunate as to come across the children of Isor, the Lord of Spiders, you would have something to offer them that might persuade them to let you leave alive. If they decide the apple is juicier than flesh, that is.
Isor is an old being in Koushan Mai myth, older even than the gods. Though there is no proof that an apple would be enough to sate his hunger - or that of his children - the majority of Koushan Mai will not wander the forests without an apple in their pocket. Some more sceptical people will tell you that they are carrying it in case they get hungry, but even these always return home with the apple intact.

It is believed that the reason that the apple works over any other food is that the apple is sacred to Seiran, Goddess of Secrets and Stars, and one-time lover of Isor.
