Souven

A village

A deep ravine winds its way across the grasslands of middle Eshua, the Silverbrin river a shining ribbon at the bottom. Cradled between the cliff wall and the riverbank is the small village of Souven, far removed from the politics of being an imperial province and sheltered from the violent storms that howl across the flat grasslands above.   Souven is one of many isolated settlements across Eshua that would prefer to fend for themselves rather than bow to the whims of the empire. It has a population of around a hundred people, and feeds itself with a mixture of fishing and agriculture. Their diet is relatively meat free, as they do not keep livestock due to lack of space. The buildings of Souven are built up on stone pillars to account for the annual floods when the snow melts. Wood is a valuable commodity that is rarely available, though sometimes trade comes up the river from the north.

Aw sounds like a lovely little place indeed! How do they farm if there is little space and the annual floods?

I pictured them making fields on stilts for some things, and also growing crops with quick growing seasons so they could be out of the ground before the floods come. :)
