The Eruption of Mount Vatra

The end of Vos Aren

In the month of Pallas, 5346 EA, the volcano known as Mount Vatra erupted with devastating force. Located in the Gulguns in the country of Moragul, Mount Vatra had erupted several times in the past one thousand years, but those were relatively benign as far as eruptions in the region were concerned. This particular eruption, however, changed that, and took its place as one of the greatest natural disasters in Sarsand's history.   For several months before the eruption, a higher frequency of earthquakes were recorded in the area than usual. Additionally, a growing bulge was observed in the volcano's eastern slope, just below the summit.   The eruption itself happened in the early hours of the morning. With little warning, the side of the volcano exploded, sending plumes of ash and smoke billowing miles into the air. The ground shook, sending inhabitants of nearby settlements - including the capital city of Vos Aren - scrambling from their beds.
The explosion was so forceful it sent superheated ash and rock hurtling across the land at great speed in a pyroclastic flow, devastating everything in its path. Villages and farms were swallowed up whole, and the city of Vos Aren was partially buried in a choking mass of boiling rock and dust.   Thousands lost their lives in the disaster, and hundreds of square miles of land were turned into desolate wasteland. The entire Kas Elan forest was flattened. With the land uninhabitable, thousands of people were forced to travel east.

Ooh, I love this as my entry point back into your world for Summer Camp. Excited to learn more about Sarsand and The Golguns and feeling sad about the Kas Elan forest. Poor trees!

I absolutely love the build-up to the big BOOM; shame though the capital, along with the surrounding lands, got buried by the boiling rocks.

Kaboom! Yeah, it sucks for the people and animals in the surrounding area. :(
