The Galanans

A colourful folk

The Galanans are a group of shapeshifters that make their home in the deep rainforest of Helvia. They have the distinction of being one of the only groups of avian shapeshifters to live outside the city of Teht Krekahw, their animal form being that of the blue parrot.   They live in a wide area in the southern rainforest, in large tree villages and towns made of interconnecting platforms up in the canopy. The platforms are connected by rope bridges and contain one to three buildings on each. Their settlements are highly decorated with colourful feathers, flowers, and other such items, as are their garments.   The Galanans are mainly hunter-gatherers, employing little to no agriculture and relying on the bounty of the rainforest.   Music is very important to them and their language is highly tonal; sometimes outsiders find it hard to tell the difference between speech and song. Many of their instruments are of the percussive variety, with most melodic components of music provided by voice alone.
The Galanans are led by elders, three in each settlement, who often converse with each other to make sure that their laws and customs are fair and consistent. Though they do not recognise the Elvken (river queen) as their ruler (unlike most of Helvia), they are respectful of her.

I do like the idea of a bird race, where song and speech is almost rolled into one. I find that concept very fitting and it's fun to think about.

At the end of everything, hold onto anything.

These guys remind me a little of a bird-shifter species I've been working on. I love how you combined human and bird elements to develop their cultural characteristics.

Thank you so much! Would love to read your species when it is done. :)

I like this species and would like to meet them. Why do some people consider them larger-than-life?

The colours and the music, mostly. They can seem a little overwhelming at first if you meet them. I think one thing I want to add is that they are very welcoming of outsiders and will probably throw a party/feast if someone came along.

The ambience of their villages must be amazing to listen to

I think so. I'd love to go hang out with them. :)
