Berserkers

Feel the wrath of nature

Created by Mu
Many children live in fear of these bloodthirsty beasts, but, as they grow older, wiser to the world, they realise it was all but the weaving of a very believable tale.   Yet, as they wander the forest, tearing asunder trees for firewood, the sound of hungry bears ring out.   As they run to safety, they can only realise, some legends are rooted in truth...

Summary

They say that these mysterious beasts roam the forests of Anderall. Wrathful spirits of ancestors torn apart during unnatural warfare stalk the thickets to exact their revenge against those who dare defile nature's beauty and peace.

Historical Basis

People have seen these supposed "Berserkers" in the forests of Anderall, taking sketches of these elusive beasts that resemble large black or brown bears. Many lumberjacks have seen these vicious spirits around their areas whilst cutting down trees, some of which never come back in one piece.

Spread

The myth of Berserkers is well-rooted in Anderallian culture. An old wives' tale usually told to scare children into never staying out late or wander in forests without an adult.   It has since fallen out of circulation of the world, as the sightings have near vanished. The threat supposedly gone, however, that does not mean that they have not stopped protecting their ancestral homes and assumed new forms.

Variations & Mutation

According to some, Berserkers were the spirits of warriors dishonourably slain through murder, sent into a demonic rage in the afterlife.   Some say that it is the cursed souls of criminals who were released into the wild to live as feral beasts, no longer allowed the luxury of sentient life.

In Literature

The myth can be found in "Terra Historia, Tales of the Land, vol.II", by Qisthar Olier, pages 18-50.

In Art

There are ancient tapestries depicting violent battles of unstoppable bears against the blades of mankind. There are strange pieces of writing that are incomprehensible to many scholars, the ciphers long lost to time.
