Dragonborn

Basic Information

Anatomy

These large, scaly humanoids have two arms and two legs. They also possess long, powerful tails, averaging around half their height in length.

Genetics and Reproduction

Dragonborn are hatched from eggs, like their draconic ancestors. As a result, dragonborn and non-dragonborn races are incapable of reproducing together. A dragonborn's color is determined by the colors of its parent, with chromatic colors being the most dominant, followed by metallic, then gem colors.

Growth Rate & Stages

For the first three years of life, a baby dragonborn is known as a softscale. Softscales have only a faint hint of their color, and their scales are little more than bumps on their skin. At age three, they will typically molt this baby skin, and then begin to develop their hard scales on their faces, knees, and elbows first, before beginning to grow them across the rest of their body. This is also typically the age where some dragonborn grow in their horns. By age fifteen, most dragonborn will have grown a full set of scales and be considered a full adult.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Scale color is a major component of Grasschenkian, or dragonborn, society. In general, the chromatic dragonborn make up the largest class, around 75%, and are the lowest socially. As a result, most dragonborn who set out into the rest of the world are chromatic. They often have little to loose, and everything to gain by setting out into the wide world.
Metallic dragonborn, around 18%, are well regarded, and typically have higher standing.
Gem tone dragonborn, around 7%, are the ruling class in the Grasschenkian society. They seldom leave Grasschenk and are well looked after by their society. Most never have to work a day in their lives.
If a dragonborn wishes for their children to have a better life, they may seek to mate with a dragonborn with a scale type of a higher social standing, hoping that that color will become the dominant. While they may be schlär, meaning one of many, referencing their multi-colored scales, they will often be met with a better life than their parents.

Facial characteristics

Dragonborn have long snouted faces, covered in thick scales. Some will grow horns in their adolescence, while others will grow neck frills, or tentacle-like whiskers.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

The dragonborn are from the Pfara Island in southern Evelire. They eventually migrated west into the mainland during the Dragon Wars late in the reign of the last great Feddisian Atah. From there they claimed the Schilf Desert and made a home for themselves there.

Civilization and Culture

History

The dragonborn originated on the Pfara Island in Erylsch Sea. They were lead for many centuries by Serchtuttl (zɐxˈtutl), Rennärdtre (ʁenɛʁtʁə), First of the Gem, one of the four primordial dragons left by the gods to oversee the mortals of the world when they built it. The draconid society on Pfara was a true wonder of the ancient world, but it fell after Serchtuttl led the draconids into mainland Evelire in 344PS, starting the Dragon Wars. Human society was largely unaware of the conflict until it was nearly over, when massive waves of dragonborn refugees fleeing the war began arriving in the Royal Coast, coming in contact with the Parzi.
The war ended when Serchtuttl was able to lead her forces against Brapdt (bʁaːpt), Rennärnchmer (ʁenɛʁnçˈmɐ), First of the Land, her brother, who had come to rule much of the south of Evelire, and seal him away. The Grasschenkian people say that the Ailbenchmer (aɪ̯lpənçˈmɐ) Moutains are the body of Brapt, sealed away. After the defeat of her brother, Serchtuttl left her people, flying north with six of her closest friends.
After this, the infighting between dragons and dragonborn began, and the eventual split between the two grew until the true dragons scattered to the corners of the world, seeking their queen, while the dragonborn stayed, seeking to forge a world of their own.
