Dom Kapur
Dom Kapur is the annual celebration of the 6th sun. This is a great celebration that acknowledges he passing of the first half of the year and welcomes in the second half. It is believed that the goddess Eppah patrons this celebration to welcome in the new change of seasons and the new crops that will be garnered from the second half of the year.
Traditionally, communities would gather in market places and reflect on the first half of the year and discuss their future plans. The attendees would offer up a selection of handcooked foods that would be normally seen as comfort foods.
Savoury dishes such as hotpot meals, meat pies, pasta dishes and potato dishes are all staples of a tradition Dom Kapur. The most traditional dish to be served at this festival would be a meatball, gravy and sweet potato dish called Cannor-Tur.
Stodgy desserts are fantastic thing to see at this festival, no dessert is the same. A newcomer to the festivities would see familiar dishes such as fruit pies, bread puddings, suet dishes, but would also see more uncommon dishes such sugared rice and syrups or outrageous, experimental cream desserts. Trifles and cheesecakes of every flavour can be found at these events.
The traditional dress for this festival is of bright, warm colours. For women, they would normally wear yellow to orange dresses and have their hair plaited with similar coloured ribbons. Men would normally wear reds, oranges and yellow suits, normally made of cotton. Either of these attires will be switched out to blues and purples in the evening to welcome in the cool night and the next phase of their journey.
There is also an evening ceremony where members of the community will light floating lanterns to clear out old stagnant energies to make way for the next phase of life's journey.
