Evren Balwinder (Ehv-rehn Bawl-WHINE-der)
Evren is a hot mess and they know it. That's their favorite thing about themselves. Evren was 30 years old at the launch of The Beagle II, had no degree, and, from their perspective, basically its janitor. Most people don't know how to get a good beat on Evren. They have a blue beard with matching wavy hair, and they wear a full face of makeup every day; they are, in their opinion, the sassiest person alive; but will beat you into the ground with their oversized prosthetic arm if you try to fuck with them or their friends. Especially Skye. Mostly Skye. Evren doesn't have a lot of friends.
Squeamish and vain, you'd think being the janitor was the last thing they'd want to do with their life, and it is; but the job description was "maintenance technician" and was the entry-level position for the engineering department. There were just a lot of caveats to that position; like janitorial duties. Evren's side-hustle was doing amateur boxing in the underground cyborg boxing ring, and if they stayed they could have gone pro, but Evren's heart wasn't in it and they told Skye it would "ruin my beautiful face."
Evren genuinely likes most people, just not bigots or assholes or snobs. Unfortunately, from their perspective, that's most of the people on Io. Evren is a lot more optimistic than most Ioans, but their sarcasm, dark humor, and flair for "throwing shade" is definitely distinctly Ioan. They are also not generically engineered like most Ioans.
Evren has no family they'd like to speak of, and they haven't spoken to for years. They assume, if their family cared about them at all, their family thinks they're dead by now anyway. Evren has had a string of casual relationships from every walk of life and it just usually never works out for one reason or another. Mostly because Evren is a lot, and won't tone it down for anyone, which basically only Skye understands.
Evren mostly went on The Beagle II because they didn't want to be without their best friend.
