Valland
History of Valland
- Valland was founded by Elves and Humans approximately 4,000 years ago at the height of the power of Usturi.
- Valland came to prominence in the early world as an up-and-coming power in the continent of Evropi as the city became a center of culture, thought, and power.
- Valland became “the center of the world” around 3,000 years ago following the founding of the Vallantis Empire.
- Valland was opulent and powerful beyond description. It was ruled by a Mageocracy.
- Vallantis, the capital district of Valland, was a flying district that orbited the city. It was struck by a meteor and sank to the bottom of the ocean, killing the inhabitants approximately 2,000 years ago.
- Hundreds of years later, a portion of the meteor was recovered by scavengers who sold it to a city of traders called “Haven”.
- The city of Haven was destroyed by an unknown calamity shortly thereafter and there were very few survivors. The survivors spoke of beasts that killed for sport.
- The church of the All Father now teaches that Valantis was struck down by the Gods: "Deus Elegit", a sect of zealots within the church preaches against using magic of any kind.
Valland Social Structure
The country is divided into the following three basic social classes:
- Nobles & Officials (5%)
- Citizens (25%) – Full citizens of Valland
- Socii (70%) – Freemen and citizens of states which have treaty obligations with Valland - Although Socii are considered free people, many of them are less than free. Once slavery was common in Valland – now it is outlawed and the city instead relies on indentured servants for cheap labor. Perhaps half of the citie's Socii class are indentured servants of one form or another.
