Evocations

Halfway between the wielder’s Charms and the powers built into Artifacts are Evocations- Charms specific to that pair of user and artifact that develop over long usage.

Any level 3 or higher Artifact may reveal Evocations after being attuned continuously for at least a month. Exactly what an Evocation does depends on the character, skills and experience of the wielder; the magical material and exotic ingredients used in its construction along with the intentions of the crafter; and finally the evocations used by previous owners - many Artifacts now have one or more fixed evocations that must be learnt first before new evocations can be developed.

Weapons and Armour of level 2 or higher have a single "standard" evocation (based on the magical material) that can manifest after a month of continuous attunement.

Each Evocation is learnt as a Charm, but is lost if the character ever de-attunes to the Artifact - if they re-attune they recover one Evocation per month. If the Artifact is primarily made of a Magical Material the character is Resonant with the Evocation is In-Caste, if Dissonant then Out-Caste, otherwise Neutral.

Standard Evocations

Weapons

    • Orichalcum: + 1 Join Battle, +1 Attack, +1 Parry
    • Moonsilver: +2 to attack
    • Jade: +3 Join Battle
    • Starmetal: +4 Weapon
    • Soulsteel: +1 attack, drain 1 Essence or hit (at least 0 damage)

Armour

    • Orichalcum: +2 Armour
    • Moonsilver: +2 Join Battle (any attuned Moonsilver armour shape shifts with its wearer as long as the size is roughly the same)
    • Jade: +2 Resistance, +2 Integrity
    • Starmetal: +1 Defend
    • Soulsteel: +2 Armour

Combination Evocation

This can be learnt for a specific combination of weapon and armour after the standard Evocations, even if they are only 2 dots each. Both Artifacts have to be made of the same magical material.

Combination Evocation (Advanced): User is Scale 3 in combat or +2 to the skills used to attack and defend with the Artifacts (almost always Dodge and one other skill) - this replaces the normal scale/bonus of the items

Dragon-Blooded Jade Weapons

If a weapon is made primarily from Jade of a single colour then an attuned Dragon-Blooded may choose the appropriate Evocation from this list instead of the Jade Evocation.

  • White Jade: Weapon +4, +1 to any roll to knockdown or stun
  • Green Jade: Weapon +2, drain 1 Essence from a living target on hit (at least 0 damage)
  • Red Jade: Weapon +6
  • Black Jade: Weapon +2, +2 Defence
  • Blue Jade: Weapon +2, +2 Join Battle
